I have UHC insurance.  I just found out today from a co-worker that they have a 12 month waiting period on pre-existing conditions   So now I am worried about this whole thing... I have been diagnosed with PCOS since I became eligible for insurance and I am sure if I went to enough doctors I could get another condition diagnosed that would not be pre-existing??? I don't know what I should do.  Do any of you have any suggestions????  Is my new diagnosis going to help me in this process??  I go for my first appointment Thursday so I hope they will have some idea of what my chances are!

Honestly if your BMI is high enough you may not necessarily need to have other co~morbidity's. Mine was 48 and I qualified with no problems through my ins company.
I would contact the ins company and ask them to explain the requirements for WLS and go from there.

I also have UHC and didnt have to do the 12 month thing. My BMI was like 50 or something and that along with a couple of co morbities, got me in the door.

Thanks for answering.  That makes me feel better.   How long did you have your insurance before you tried to have surger?  My BMI is definately high enough!!!!!!!!!

I don't know if your co-worker is your insurance co-ordinator but, uless you had a gap in your coverage there should be no pre-existing condition issue.  If you went 45 days or so without coverage then, yes, it will apply usually.  If you worked for a company and changed jobs but had continuous coverage even if it was cobra then you would need to provide a certificate of continuous coverage from your previous carrier.  Thos are usually mailed to you when you leave a company.  I found that UHC is typically one of the companies that have no pre-existing issue clauses anyway.  I would check with your company and/or insurance coordinator before going too far so there are no surprises.  Depending on how large your group is depends on whether WLS will be covered.  Typically small groups will not have this benefit included in their insurance options.  You usually get that perk with the larger groups.  Good luck to you!!

This is the ride of my life.....what an amazing tool I now have!!!

i was told I had pcos in 2002 and I just got uhc insurance in june of 2008 and didn't have to worry about pre-existing conditions. I called uhc as soon as my insurance was in effect and I only had to meet 3 things to be able to get wls. I had to have a bmi over 40 be over 21 and have a wt problem for more than 5 years. Once the dr's office summited my pre-approval I was approved in less than 2 weeks for wls.
