Has anyone tried

Hi all,

I am stuck at a 15-pound weight loss on my 3-month supervised diet, which will be finito on May 12. Then they will submit to my insurance.

Since I have been losing weight and it looks like it will be in June sometime when I get my band surgery and wondering how I can possibly kick some of my cravings before the dreaded preop diet. Anyway, today, I have been going back to my old faithful diet from several years ago in which I lost 50 pounds, which is the low carb, high protein or induction phase of Atkins. I just wondered if anyone had tried doing that prior to going on their preop diets and if so did it help in the long run with any "sweet" cravings.

I have been really taking a serious evaluation of myself ever since I knew I would have to do the 3-month supervised diet and am trying to kick some habits before getting banded. I have kicked my caffeine addiction and for the most part my soda pop addiction. I have maybe 1 a week now. I also decided to try low carb again because I would like to lose another 20 or so pounds before I have surgery and then how ever much during the preop diet.

I have also realized through all of this that I am thinking my "addiction" is if I really like the taste of something I want to keep eating it until I am miserable, so I am also going to seek out counseling to find out why I do this. I have been trying to keep a journal of certain feelings and am finding this very helpful. But, I know I am going to need some added help. I would go to more support groups, but it's just too far to go up to Integris each time and I wish they had a support group here around Norman. Anyway, sorry for rambling and if anyone has tried the low carb thing before doing their preop please let me know and let me know if it has helped cut any sweet cravings.

Have a blessed Mother's Day,

That is basically what my doctor has you use for a preop. His diet is always low carb high protien. I gave up my pop, coffee, and sweets before surgery too. I will admit I still miss them sometimes but it was better for me to get them gone before hand than while tryiing to recover too.

HI Luanna,

Yes, I started exercising again in March. I know muscle weighs more than fat, so maybe that could part of it, but I really want to try and kick as many bad habits as possible. I am also having my hubby hide my scale

This is a great diet idea to follow, not just now but after your surgery.  However you will eventually have to add in some good carbs later down the road since you NEED carbs to help replenish you after hard workouts.  You dont want your body to have to look to muscles for food to eat to replenish you.  none of us want to lose muscle mass (well maybe some "muscle" from our butts, lmao).

As always though, consult with your doctor and nut and get a good dietary plan that works for YOU.  I wish you the best of luck.
