My poor hair

I knew my hair would start to come out but last night it was really bad. I want to cry. I hope that I don't lose it all. If I bru**** my brush is full. If I do anything, it just falls out by the roots. I have long hair and am thinking of just donating it to locks of love and maybe the shorter style will make it seem like not so much is falling out. I am sad about this and not sure there is anything I can do to stop it or slow it.

Bless your heart. What you're experiencing is normal, after WLS. You won't lose "all" your hair, and what you lose will grow back, eventually. The hair products and supplements (like Biotin) may or may not help. I think upping one's protein helps the most.
Get a cute, shorter hairdo, and you'll be nice and cool for warmer weather. You'll be fine. Try to enjoy the journey, and know that this, too, shall pass.
Blessings,
Mary

I took mine off at the shoulders after having it at least mid back for years. I still saw it go but I pretended it was less than if it was longer. My hair is one of teh hardest things for me to deal with but hey I am almost 8 months out and it is finally starting to slow way down again. No more handfuls of hair from just washing it. It will get better.

My hair has started coming out too. Not by handfuls, thank God, but in the hairbrush and comb. I am not using anything special. I did up my protein some and that seems to be helping a bit.
Good luck.

Mine is falling out too, it has been for 1-2 months..  I started taking some hair growth pills from Walmart $3.00 and it seems to have slowed down the past 2 weeks.  I new this was a side effect too, but it does not make it any easier.  My showers take longer and longer now because I am trying to get all of the loose strands out of my hair and off of me.

Hang in there, it can only get better.

I've noticed the same things and I started taking biotin like 2 months before my surgery so that maybe i could get  jump start on it. The worst part is I didn't really have much hair to spare, it's really thin and fine to begin with...I just hope I don't start to get bald spots! I have considered cutting it but i'm going on a cruise in Aug and I don't want to hate my hair on my trip....I guess it just goes to show that we can't have it all....Slimmer trimmer bodies and great hair.

I guess I wil cut it tomorrow. I am scared to even brush my hair. It is alot of hair coming out. do you think that the biotin will help or the nioxin shampoo? I will email the nutritionalist to ask her. Thanks for everything and advice.

My hair did the same thing.  The nuts will tell you that it is just part of the process and that it will eventually stop.  However, I went ahead and started taking extra vitamins, if for nothing else to comfort myself.  I also started using all the Nioxin products I could get my hands on.  It has finally slowed down (at least in my mind) but I don't know if it's because of my extra efforts or that I'm nearing my goal weight.  I would suggest going shorter.  I had really long, curly hair to begin with and now I pretty much wear it in a ponytail.  It will get better...don't lose faith!  This is a small price to pay for all of the other wonderful benefits you get with this life change.

I know you are right. The nioxin is so expensive. I know in my mind that it will be ok but my heart just feels low when I see all the hair coming out. Thanks for sharing.

My hair is very long and I get a little freaked out too. But the thing about it is I have always lost a lot of hair....it always looks like a small animal died around the drain of my shower and on my brush. The thing that I have noticed is that now for one we are paranoid about it so we are paying much more attention to it and two 3-4 verly long hairs looks like way more than it really is.

It is normal to lose 50-100 hairs a day so even if we are losing a few more than that it will be fine. I am also taking Biotin everyday..it's cheap...I'm not sure if it helps but it helps with my piece of mind. Stress can cause you to lose hair too so stop stressin over it and know that as long as you are takin your vitamins and gettin in your protein it is a temporary thing.
