Exercise equipment advice

I got an elliptical about a year ago off of craigslist.org.  I got it for a reasonable price...I don't remember exactly how much I paid for it now but it was a fraction of the new price.  I was like you...not wanting to spend the money on something I wasn't sure I would use.  I need to use it more but I get up in the AM and use most mornings.  I have my workout done before my day begins.  You might look for something gently used and get a better price.  I like the elliptical because its easier on my knees.  My DH hates it and says he can't do it.  But I like it better then a treadmill.  I guess its just a personal choice.
Good luck!

My dad gave me an eliptical machine and I do not like it. I love the expensive eliptical machines they have at they gyms but this one is a cheaper one and I just do not like it...therefore i do not get on it. I don't know what I am going to do. I NEED to exercise so badly but have yet to get started. I think I might get a bike as well...I am just wondering how much of the body they actually work. I can see them working the calves but how much of the thighs do they work?

Hey Winne - the only exercise machine I like is a treadmill..I bought one for $200 last year from a neighbor. One idea I wanted to throw out there, is the Mustang Community Center - the membership is $15 per month and you are not on a contract. If you go after 7:30 p.m. there are very few people there and they close at 10:00 - it is not intimidating as a regular gym, since the place is smaller and generally less crowded. They have treadmills, bikes and ellipticals (plus weigths..but I never ventured there!) - They also have an indoor walking trail.

Hey Man!

here is my two cents. Take it for what it's worth. I too thought about buying equiptment because I don't have time to go to the gym on a regular basis because of my crazy schedule and the fact I am lazy and broke! So what I have been doing is just walking at night when I get home. Usually not till 9 or so but I love it. It gives me time by myself to just be alone with no phones, no noise and just think and concentrate on me, or nothing if I don't want to. The bonus is it is free, relatively safe since I am roaming the neighborhood and I alternate my route so I don't get bored. Have you thought about something like that? I know it's not for everyone, but it works for me :)

Well, hi-jack.  Winn, your new pic is amazing.   What a difference.  Have noticed alot of us here with new pics and what a dang good looking lot of people we are!!!  I bought a Gold's Gym recumbant bike from Walmart, which also had a 250 weight limit.  I finally got brave enough to try it at around 325 or more, and did fine.  Think it was around $140 or so.   I would love to join a gym, but like you, the mass exercising is very intimidating.  When I went a few years ago, I always managed to go during "Mr. Buff hour".    Hated watching them do 10,000 crunches and run 40 miles in 10 minutes,  and use every machine in the place with full weights, all while I did 30 seconds on a stationary bike, then used 3 towels to soaked up the sweat from doing that.  Gez!   Some guy here on OH wrote on his blog about his rowing machine, which I thought would be absolutely great, but even a used one was like $700, so that was out of the question.  Good luck with your decision.  Michael
