Exercise equipment advice

I need advice.  I'm having trouble staying compliant with my exercise.  It's not that I am lazy, either.  I just don't have time at work to walk the tunnels and after work it's been raining quite often.

Have many of you purchased exercise equipment for home use?  Do you use it often?

I'm thinking about a recumbent bicycle.  I've found that the decent treadmills are much more than I can spend.  I can't pay cash right now so I'm limited where I can shop.

I've also thought about gym or Y membership but by the time I pay for a year of those I could have had a nice piece of exercise equipment without having to leave home.  Social exercising isn't appealing to me for some reason.

Thoughts anyone?

Winnie, I purchased a recumbent bicycle about a year ago from Academy Sports.  I paid about $20 less than this but this is pretty much the same one I bought.  It says only 220 pounds weight limit but I was about 350 when I bought it and it did fine.  Lyntoral told me about it and she had the same one and disregarded the weight limit as well and her bike did fine.  I have mine sitting in the dining room facing the TV so I can watch and ride in the evenings.  I think $139 is a decent price for this particular bike.  Of course, you can find them much more expensive like anything else.  This serves my purpose fine though.

Hi, Winnie.
I have trouble with my knees, so walking is a challenge, although it's getting better. I am able to use the Gazelle, and I enjoy that. I don't remember the cost, but I remember thinking that it wasn't as pricey as before. I also use a tabletop arm bike, which I ordered on-line, through WalMart. It was $50 or so. I have a mini trampoline with a side rail to hold on to, but I haven't gotten brave enough to try it, as my weight is a bit higher than the weight limit [visons of me jumping up and going down, through the mesh!]
Hand weights are good, whenever you're cleared to do them.
Hope this helps. I'm a firm believer in "Where there's a will, there's a way."
Blessings,
Mary

Winnie I was blessed by a wonderful OH friend that gave me her Gazelle glider. I used it all winter and since I belong to aspen I am going there. If you would like to have this one, I would love to give it to you. PM me and I can give you details if you want it. I am paying it forward since it was given to me. I live in Bethany so it is not far from you either. If you would like it, it is yours.

Not that I don't appreciate your generosity but that thing scares me!  I went and looked it up and found this:

Is this what you have?  How is it on lower backs?  Do you feel like you get a good workout with it?

Yes! This is it.
You are more than welcome to try it out for a while and see if you like it or not. Yes, you do feel like you have skiied across America when you are done. It is a work out! It is very easy to use too. I have low back problems but I didn't notice any issues using this at all. It is hard to say. At least if you tried it out and hated it, it wouldn't be as if you were out any money. . Maybe ask around and see what people say. Even if you just used it until you could get something you really want....Just let me know.

Hey Winne!  I bought a recumbent bike from Sears a couple of months ago and I really like it.  They had a few to choose from but I decided on a Schwinn SR23.  (I think that was the model number.)  Academy also had a good selection where you can get on and ride.  Mine ended up costing about $450 but you can definitely pay less for other brands.

I like it because I can hop on any time I want and can watch TV or read while I peddle away!  Plus it's harder to make excuses when it's sitting inside your own house!  LOL!

Good luck to you on your exercise routine whatever you decide!

I'm looking at the same one at the same place.  The big question is should I spend the money?

I have resistant bands, hand weights and a jump rope plus this thingy that i call the stepper.or climber you step on it and its like climbing stairs the great thing about it  its only thirteen inches long by 10 inches wide....and gives a great workout...
Like you going to a gym is not appealing..cause I dont like the idea of touching someone elses body fluids...YUCk
plus I have a friend who has an indoor pool that I can go swim .....
being healthy has its rewards....take the challenge and just do it
