Does anyone know if you pay for the surgery in full, if you can use it as a tax write off?

Thanks,
Tiffine

Yes, you can Tiffine!  As long as your medical is like 7% of your income.  Mine worked out and took the deduction for 08.  Be sure and save EVERYTHING that is not reimburseable by your insurance.  You need to also keep track of any mileage you have to and from doctor's appointments etc.  It all adds up over the course of the year.  I think I ended up with about 20K that was out of pocket...arrrgh.  I wish mine had been covered by insurance because the 20K only added about 3K to my refund.  I'm not complaining...every little bit sure helps.  Hope this helps you!!

Thank you Glitter!!!  I will pay you when I pay Anna Banana!!  I will have to get away from all that black I use to wear when Omar made all my tents.  As you know we were all told black would make us look thin (how can you make that much woman look thin??).  I really have only lost 10 pounds since then...arrrgh but the inches have simply shifted around.  I think I've built up some muscle too.  I know that I've probably walked more shopping than in the park though.....I'm a shop a holic....did I say transfer addiction???

Yup, it's tax deductible.  You can deduct anything you paid out that is over and above 7.5% of your gross adjusted income.  Turbo Tax can figure it all out for you.  Please make sure you save every single receipt including vitamins and aspirin and dental and, well, you get the picture.  You can use it all!

Welcome to Okie board if I haven't already said so!

I did not realize vitamins and protein shakes are tax deductible.  Is this really true??!  It would be great if it is!

My understanding on the vitamins and shakes is that you have to have a letter from your doctor/surgeon that these items are medically necessary and not merely for weight loss enhancement uses.  I got my letter and have attached to my tax file in the event of an audit since I did use those items as part of my write off.  You might check with your accountant too.
