Anyone gone from RNY to LapBand?

I had a gastric bypass Sept 18 2002. In 12 months I went from 247lbs down to 135 at 5'7" not bad. Now, I am back up to 225 and climbing. I got a referal from my pcp to get a revision done. Has anyone had banding done after rny? And what have been your results. I am currently working on trying to get an appointment wiht Gornichek. First I have two hours of paperwork to fill out + I think he is going to require a sleep study etc. I refuse to get really big again..I just can't go there. Even at 225 I feel IMMENSE knowing what it feels like to be 90 lbs thinner than this....Take care, Angela (Altus, OK)

Hi - I don't know anyone who has had banding from RNY - usually it's the other way around, as I do know, that no other surgery really tops the RNY - however, all the surgery provides is a tool and the work must be done by us. Have you tried going back to basics and try to lose the weight regained with the tool that you already have? Just a thought..you may not need another surgery, just maybe re-adjust your diet. I hope someone who has had the band can answer your question better..best of luck.

Angela~ Hi there!  I'm in Altus, too!  I don't know anyone who went from RNY to Lapband (usually the revision is from band to RNY).  I am sorry I can't help more with that.  It's nice to see someone else from Altus on here :)

Hi Renae,
I am going in to see the surgery coordinator in OKC for my revision May 18th. I am a little nervous yet excited...to see what can be done. It's been a good 5 years since I was happy with my WLS. What kind of diet and exercise regiment do you stick to?It's good to see someone succeeding. You look wonderful! Angela

You might try the Revision Board-I know that they DO those revisions, or sometimes they can go back in and reduce the size of your pouch.

But, before I had any revisions, I would have an MRI or fluorscope and see what size your pouch is.  If you aren't completely stretched out, then it's not how much you are eating it's WHAT you are eating that is causing you go gain weight, and that will not be corrected by the band.  I know that's not what you want to hear, but it's the truth.

I am very happy with my band, but the credit for what I put in my mouth goes to me-we work together.  If you still have a small pouch, I would try behavior modification before surgery.

The problem is I always feel hungry. I would bet money that I stretched my pouch. Seven years ago at least with my dr there was VERY little education. I have since read that I shouldn't have been drinking soda, or drinking through a straw, or chewing gum. That all those things can stretch things out. I still can't tolerate pudding, ice cream, milk, or cream based soups. I can also only comsume sugar in very small quantities. I am just hungry all the time almost like it was when I was pre-op. After my surgery for the first 5 years I felt fuller much more quickly than I do now. Thanks to those of you who stated the obvious about going back to the basics but I tried that and have been at this weight for well over a year now. I try to diet but get so hungry that I just cave and eat. Like I said I feel as hungry as I was pre-op....UGH----very frustrated.

Well, the good news is you are working now to find a solution-so, just like before, one step at a time, and don't give up and don't let past mistakes keep you from trying for a better future.  If anyone says anything to you, look them right in the eye and say "at least I don't give up".
