Gastric Sleeve...
Hi everyone I’ve been doing some more research and I’m starting to consider the Gastric Sleeve. This is a procedure that was not available through the surgery I was originally considering. Can any of you who have had this procedure tell me how you like, and if you were considering another WLS …what made you choose the sleeve? And any of you who chose another WLS over the sleeve please let me know what lead to your decision. I’m looking at having this surgery at weight wise in Edmond, and I will be self-Pay. Any and all advice is welcomed.
I had the sleeve and could not be happier with my decision. I initially considered the band but after the initial seminar ruled that out and went back and forth between the sleeve and RNY. One of the reasons I ultimately chose the sleeve was because I was also self pay. The sleeve has the lowest risk of complications. Because WLS was excluded on my insurance they would not cover complictions either so I took that into consideration.
Hi.
I have the Sleeve, and I love it! I couldn't be happier. No complications for me, and I'm pleased with the results, so far. I had researched several surgeries and was strongly leaning toward the VSG, and once I sat in on the seminar (which covered several surgery types), my choice was confirmed.
With the amount of weight I need to lose, Dr. Walton wanted me to consider the RNY, but when I said I would not have surgery unless I could have the Sleeve, he said, "Okay." :)
I chose the Sleeve because I did not want to have my insides rerouted, I didn't want malabsorption issues, and I did not want dumping syndrome. Personally, I would not even consider the lap band, because it would be too wierd to have that inside me (I'm easily wierded out). Also, I didn't want to deal with fills.
Hope this helps. If I can answer any other questions, fire away. Every month, when I send in my payment for my surgery, I just thank God all over again. It is worth every penny. :)
Blessings,
Mary

Hi, I'm not that far out from surgery, but I'm really happy with it so far! I too chose the sleeve because the lowered risk factor and I was also self pay. I am eating about 3 ozs per meal, 3 meals a day, and so far I've lost 42 lbs since surgery (gained 10 while in hospital from iv fluids, but it's gone and it's 10 more I'm counting!)
I had a rough time in recovery because I had a bad reaction to the pain meds, but as soon as they were out of my system, I felt much better. Other than that, the only trouble I've had has been trying to reprogram my mind that I just can't eat what I used to eat! That's the hard part!
But I am very happy with my surgery and I would do it again in a heartbeat. All the worrying I did before surgery was for nothing! For the first time in my life, I can see myself as being somebody other than "the fat girl" and that's really a good feeling!
Hope this helped you. Weight Wise is a good place and the hospital was absolutely wonderful.
Good luck with your decision!

I CHOSE THE SLEEVE BECAUSE IT HAD LOWER RISK FACTORS. I HAD CONSIDERED THE LAP BAND BECAUSE I COULDN'T AFFORD THE BYPASS BUT WHEN I STARTED RESEARCHING THE BAND I GOT A CALL FROM WEIGHTWISE AND WAS TOLD ALL THE INFO ON THE SLEEVE. AFTER ATTENDING THE FIRST MEETING I WAS SOLD. I TOOK MY MOM WITH ME SO SHE COULD ASK QUESTIONS THAT I FORGOT AND IT WAS DECIDED THEN AND THERE THAT THIS WAS WHAT I WANTED TO DO. SHE HELPED ME GET A LOAN THRU SURGERYLOANS.COM AND I TELL YOU I WOULD PAY ON IT FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE IF I HAD TO BUT IT IS ONLY GOING TO TAKE ME 3 YEARS MAYBE LESS. I WOULD DO IT ALL AGAIN IF I HAD TO. I HAVE LOST 162LBS AND I FEEL WONDERFUL! IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS THAT I CAN HELP YOU WITH PLEASE DON'T HESITATE TO HOLLER AT ME! GOOD LUCK!
I was set on the RNY when I first went to Weightwise - At the time I went to the seminar the sleeve was not available - I later changed my mind mainly because my husband was a little too nervous about the RNY, so I compromised - the band was not an option. Today, I am extremely happy about choosing the sleeve, I was not diabetic and did not have a real problem with sweets - my main problem was just overeating, and the sleeve gives me the restriction I need to avoid overeating - with all surgeries, however, the main component for success is a change of eating habits and making those changes for life. Any surgery can be a success or failure!!! Best of luck with your decision and feel free to ask questions!
I love my VSG. I went to the seminar with all intentions of having the band surgery, but due to the information that I received about slipping and the fills I chose the VSG. Now anybody who has any other surgery will tell you that their choice was the best, but it is up to you, get all the info that you can and make an informed decision. If you are going to finance this surgery please read all information about the company's that might possibly finance it. Please google them and find out all info. I used Care Credit and have had nothing but problems with them, after googling them I found out that they have a terrible reputation with how they do business. Best of luck to you. Rosielocks
