Do You Snack?
Head hunger is still my number one issue and I try to fight the good fight. Some days are better than others.

Ok, then - confession - I had been doing like Deb and Kim - snacking, but trying to stick to healthier choices. The last couple of weeks, the most evil creation known to man -= the peanut M&M =- has been stealing it's way into my snack zone. The things are E-V-I-L and so easy for me to eat... Uggghhh...
Anyhow, I think the truth is we all snack, it's one of those things we all struggle with. We're all just doing the best we can... my opinion is that guilt and angst only add to the stress of trying to manage life and our weight. I know when I make bad choices, I accept the consequences for myself, and I just keep on doing the best I can every day.
Best wishes.... don't use up the energy worrying about your snacks, save it up for when you decide to go out and have fun!
John
Okay - now MOST of you know I am the one of the most non-compliant patients there ever has been and I am sure a source of complete disgust for Chris. But seriously, even with the bad choices I CAN and HAVE made - at almost 3 years out I have only regained about 7-10 pounds. I still have about 25 to get where I want to be - and truthfully - I know how to get there.
I think the thing we all have to remember - and some of us do (as a mantra of sorts) - they didn't operate on our BRAINS. There are going to be times when we are going to stray - fall off the wagon - whatever - but I think John (God love you) hits it on the nose - just admit it, deal with it and MOVE ON. Make good choices when you do and if you feel you are sliding down a dark hill, ask for help.
We have to learn how to do this for the rest of our lives!! Trust me - it does NOT get easier the further out it becomes. But in the same vein as we beat ourselves up for eating before surgery - you have a tool to help you now - so it can be corrected.
If you feel the need for a snack - make a good choice protein or protein - and if it becomes a habit you may need to add another ounce or two during a meal to satisfy you more. Tweaking the diet becomes really important when these habits start rearing their ugly head!
But, we are all here in the same rocky boat.... none of us are perfect....

I sure do! As others have stated, I also try to stick to a protein snack, but I have swayed towards a bag of pretzels, or sun chips here and there.....Honestly, I was feeling really guilty for a while about this, but I don't anymore - food happens and I do feel I am in control - snacking has not led to binging as it would have in the past - it's part of life! My calories are still way below those of an average person, even with the snacking; I do track my food, including the snacks, and I am happy with the fact that I don't ever choose sweets as a snack - I am over those, in fact they don't appeal to me at all. But, yes, the head hunger is definitely a tough one to defeat..I haven't accomplished that yet...
Yes, I snack. The question I have for you and everyone else is what do you tell Dr. B or Dr. W. at your check ups? I was truthful with Dr. B. and he about came unglued. I haven't been for an official appt since my 4 month checkup because I don't want to lie but I don't want to tell the truth either.
As far as Jess goes....she just reads that dang sheet of paper that they gave us in the begining and doesn't offer up any practical, real life solutions in my opinion. She is nice and all but I haven't found a lot of value there.
I have an afternoon snack and evening snack. Because I know I will snack I usually plan for a healthy snack like almonds, cheese, or fruit. But there are those times where I eat junk. I am trying to kee my calories under 1,500 and therefore my weight loss is slow, like a pound a week now. I do work out just about every morning for an hour at the gym.
