therapists in ok
hey all,
so yesterday i went to a soup place for lunch with a gf and realized i may have a problem.
we ordered lunch and knowlingly i so couldnt have the bigger size that i got- I STILL BOUGHT IT! like i knewwww so knew i was only going to be able to eat a few spoon fuls of soup and be full.
its like still in my mind i have this mindset bigger is better and i end up throwing things away like everyday. . its getting ridiculous and i can be saving some cash, yanno?
even this morning i made some muffins, i think more so to go thru the notions, not necessarly to eat them. my bf i dont think even likes the kind i made. it was like for no specifiac reason!
so the reason im posting this is because i hear alot of people need some kind of therapy after wls. i am only a month out and am curious if anybody knows a therapist in the norman area that i could go to when i move in a month?
any help would be appreciate!

I am not aware of the therapist in Norman but I'm sure some will chime in. We have a great one in Edmond, Dr. Jim Keller who works at the WeightWise center but also takes private patients. You are not alone in this and some of this will simply take time. My husband and I always share meals. He usually orders something he knows I can have and I take my little bit and he eats the rest. I have also learned to order a single entree when I go to lunch with friends at work, a child's meal works too. If you have left-overs they will make several other meals for you as well. As for the muffins...we aren't allowed to have that with our meal plan so I wouldn't even go there for myself. You will get there my friend. It's all about change and we didn't get where we were over night and the change will not happen over night either!!! Good luck to you!!!
Dr. Keller is fabulous! I just love him.
What you're dealing with is very normal. It's hard to get used to small portion sizes when we've been pigging out for so many years. I'm 11 months out and still sometimes over-order. I try to save it for the next meal or give it away to co-workers who will always eat it! Sometimes I just want a bite or 2 but that can be a slippery slope to overeating.
Maybe you should quit buying the ingredients for muffins. If it's not there, you can't bake them, right? Maybe going cold turkey would be the best. Those carbs are not good for you so get rid of them!
Take it one day at a time. Some days are harder than others and you just have to hang in there and be tough. The important thing is to get right back on track after a boo-boo. That is much easier after surgery, at least for me. In the old days, a boo-boo would lead to a binge which would lead to major weight gain. I pray those days are over for all of us!

The muffin thing sounds like me. I signed up to take cake decorating classes two weeks before my RNY. CAKE DECORATING!!! I have exposed myself to so much sugar, and cake and icing in the last month that i'm surprised I even made it out alive. But I actually found that it helped me, I enjoy watching everyone enjoy the cakes I make and they all ooohhh and ahhh over the pretty decorations. And it's fun.
As for the portion "dysmorphia" on that one I can't relate. I'm so afraid to puke that I don't even test the tummy. but i'm one month and one week today and still no vomitt so in my books i'm doing okay!! Good luck finding a therapist, I'm about 75 miles south of Norman so I can't really help ya there.
Sweetie,
I lived the post op life prior to surgery for like 3 months. I learned how to be one just to make sure I could handle it after I had the surgery. So I know what you are going through.
Since you sem to like to cook..why not try recipes that are WLS friendlly..there are recipes for muffins etc that you can have...
As for going out to eat...this my trick. I always tell the waitress that I had WLS and I would like to know if I can get the child's portion. If thats not possible I have littl baggies with me and I will put in them what I know I cant have...
I have gone to IHOP and asked about the child's menu and was told I could order off of it.
Just make wise decisions..and if you can pick the resturant you want to go to....Souper Salad DOES give discount to WLS patients....So does Applebees...and Chili's
hugs to ya

being healthy has its rewards....take the challenge and just do it
Being bipolar with 2 adhd children I have seen a psychitrist anf a family conslours for a couple of years now and I will say I had to try a couple before I found one I clicked with. I laugh as *head hunger* was the main topic at our appointment yesterday. How I am dealing with the emotional keys to eat. SO Wednesday when we go in for counsling instead of a med visit I will dig into this with her more then.
