leg cramps?

Anyone else have night time leg cramps?  I've been having them and they area extremely painful!  It might be partly because it always happens in the middle of the night and maybe the pain just seems worse because it wakes you up.

Anyway, does anyone else have this problem and what did you do about it?  And how do you stop the pain?

I know it can be caused from lack of calcium, potassium or dehydration so I'm working on all of those issues.

Thanks for any input you might have!

YES! This just started recently and they have been awful! I used to be able to move my foot opposite the way the cramp was pulling the muscle but I can't with these cramps. I have not been able to figure out the cause but massaging seems to help.

More than likely it's low calcium.  That's usually the case with me.  Good Luck

I used to get them all the time really bad expecially at night, I think it was because I wasn't drinking enough water.  It was back in the day when I had a Coke in my hand 24/7.  I haven't had any in along time.  I know thats not your problem.  Hopefully your getting enough water in.  Maybe you should call the nutritionist maybe she could tell you what it is or might be.

I had them real bad during my preg. days and they had to give me Calcium shots. During the night like that usually means that.It goes all the way into the foot too, then leaves your muscles hurting all the next day..... When you get them, stand on the floor by a wall. Stand back far enough that you pull your calves when you lean forward with feet kept flat. Like a push up on the wall. This helps every time, but not the cure for what the problem is. You need to go in and get that checked, I think it's important to do that real soon too.  My guess is the calcium, but it could be potassium too. Good luck girls....I'm chewing one of my calciums right now! After reading this, I don't want to go through this again.

I'm sorry you are going through this Kim.  I don't have any advice for you since I'm not experiencing this and haven't.  Before WLS I did have "restless leg syndrome" but that has now gone away.  I think you might need to run this through the nut and if she can't answer she'll get you through to Doc W!!

This is the ride of my life.....what an amazing tool I now have!!!

You're going to think I'm crazy, but this home remedy really helps when I have leg cramps.  I go to the fridge and drink a little bit of pickle juice.  It seriously helps me.  I think it's the salt in the pickle juice that helps.  I get leg cramps when my sodium or potassium is too low, when I'm dehydrated, and sometimes when I'm just plain tired.

I hope you find out what the problem is, but maybe this remedy will help with the pain.

Hugs,
Marsha

I had them when I was on the pre-op diet - Kathy at WW had me do blood work to see if I was low on potassium and I was...I took a potassium supplement and it worked! I don't get them anymore and I also don't take the additional potassium - for some reason, afert surgery the cramps went away.

I take holistic pills for leg cramps-they contain quinine.  Club soda also has quinine in it and is supposed to help-but it's carbonated so I can't drink it.
