4 months out and my hair!!!
Good morning my fellow losers! I am now four months out, almost 80 lbs. down, and seem to be in a stall right now, but that's ok. It'll happen, I know it will. I'm finally feeling better, being able to eat just about anything, I am recovering from knee surgery, and finally got to go to the pool on Wednesday and I feel good! The only thing I am worried about right now is my hair! I know it's normal for it to come out, I was expecting it. I am one of those people who feels better if my hair looks good...at least to me....LOL...and right now I can't do anything with it. I don't know if getting it cut short would help or hurt the way it looks. My new avatar is proof to me that it's awful! Have any of you gotten yours cut off and it was better? Mine isn't long, but layered, and there are spots that are so thin right now that it's embarrassing! How long before it will come back in? Did it come back in better than before? Meaning can I look forward to good hair, or still the fine limp stuff I have had for 41 years?
Hugs,
Marsha

First, I think your hair looks fine -- it always looks worse to ourselves than it does to others. My hair is also very fine and lays perfectly flat if I do not blow dry it. I stopped losing about 6-7 months out and now at 9 months I have lots of new growth. I use nioxin and every hairdresser has told me that it is the best thing to do and that it is actually the best to use all the time -- even when not experiencing hair loss. My hair is still fine, but it actually is a lot easier to manage and style than it ever used to be. I use root lift when blow drying and it has made a world of difference.
I think cutting it might help you and especially since you teach you'll have the summer to mess with it. I am a short hair person anyway. I lost a lot of hair from about 4-8 months and then it quit falling out. I have been taking biotin and using good products. I condition the heck out of it meaning that when I put on my thick conditioner in the shower I leave it on the entire time I'm putting my makeup on and then rinse it off and blow it dry. I do that every day. not only did mine fall out but what was left was like straw. The texture was horrible and wouldn't do anything. It started coming back in and my hairdresser finally agreed to color it this past week after over a year out. Chemicals are hard on it after surgery too. Your avatar pictures looks great and so does you hair but I know what you are dealing with. I told my friends/family that even though I was huge I still had good hair....LOL It will come back and maybe thicker but I'm thinking it will be about like it was pre-op. Unfortunately there are no magic potions.
The Nioxin is supposed to be going on sale at Beauty Brands real soon. The big bottles will be buy one get one free. That is what they told me in January, so be on the watch for that. I know Jessica said at the Diet Class, that it will just happen and there is not much we can do about it. It is just part of the process. I assume that since my hair is long, I will have a great comb over!

Marsha, my hair too started coming out at 4 months. I am almost 17 months out and my hair is just now starting to come back in good and I haven't lost any weight in 4 months. I have taken biotin daily ever since that 4th month. I think everyone is probably going to react differently. Trust me it bothers you more than anyone else. It does help to cute it shorter if it is really thin. Hang in there. It will all fall into place.

I have always had such thick hair that it was hard to even get a pony tail to fit around it when it was long ( I used to wear it down past my bottom) but a couple of months ago I started losing it by the handfuls. I swear I have had to use draino twice for hair balls in the drain. I will be 6 months out soon and it is slowing down some. But I did have my hair cut from mid back to shoulder length and I am glad that I did I couldn't imagine what it would be like if I had kept it long. I am also hot oil treating it every couple of weeks to help keep it soft and silky like I am used to it being. It will slow down as you get further out and I am already starting to see some baby hairs sticking up in places so I am positive it will be back before long.
Thanks girls! I have been using the Nioxin since before surgery, and I know at first I saw a difference, then not so much. I don't use it all the time, but I will start using it constantly. I will check for some Biotin also, maybe it will at least look a little better, even though it's still thin. I am going to see my hair stylist to see about cutting it shorter too. I'd love one of those cuts that you just wash, dry, and go. That would give me more time in the mornings, that's for sure!
Thanks again for all of your encouagement. I knew it was going to happen, Dr. Walton told us in the very first seminar that it would, and we couldn't stop it. You all look beautiful, so I know there's hope for me too!
