I have gotten to the point that everytime i drink my protein i have to force it down and i gag the entire time. Today i was sitting at work and i took a drink and started to gag. i just couldnt get control of it this time and heaved and vomited for the firt time since surgery (btw...did not make it to the BR, had to slam my office door and grab a trash can). Granted not much came up, but it took me a while before i could get control and stop. It was aweful! Any suggestions for protein shakes. I have tried Atkins, Isopure, Muscle Milk, JD Robb, and todays culprit Special K. I have got to find something that i can hold down. This is miserable and embarrassing at work!

Are you mixing it with water or milk?  A lot of folks become lactose intollerant after WLS and that might be the case for you.  I have not had but one protein shake post WLS because our Nutritionist prefers we get our protein from "real" protein sources.  You might try using some of the cheeses, cottage or soft cheese or tuna or chicken salad and let the shakes go for a while.  I'm sure someone else will chime in here!  Sorry I'm not much help but after drinking so many pre-WLS I do NOT miss them at all!!!

This is the ride of my life.....what an amazing tool I now have!!!

Call your dietician.  You may need to get some further guidance as to how far you can advance your diet at this point post-op.  I ditched those protein drinks as fast as I could post-op.  If you are allowed mushies go to cottage cheese, string cheese, and other soft foods.
I have maintained for one year at this point.  I am steady at -120 pounds.  =)
40 pounds lost pre-op

Mostly i mix with milk, but i mix my carnation instant breakfast with milk and that goes down fine. Some of the ones that i have tried are pre mixed as well. I have tried a bit of eggs and cottage cheese, but at my 2 week f/u my doctor said that he thought it would be best if i stay on protein shakes until 12 weeks post op. YUCK I am going to call the dietician tomorrow.

I did this same thing for about the first 3 weeks. It was awful. I am now able to use Nectar fuzzy navel mixed in orange crystal light and roadside lemonade mixed in lemonade crystal light. I also use Proti Diet protein drink mix. It is really good. It is a liquid concentrate. I get the kiwi melon.
You will get there it just takes time and the right protein or combination of protein.

I also agree with Emily. I use the Nectar Carribean Cooler and mix mine with my sugar free fruit punch and sometimes a half of a banana...yumm. I am gonna try the fuzzy navel next. It does get better, u just have to find that right protein shake that works for you. Hang in there kiddo...better days are coming

You might also try mixing it "thinner' with more liquid.
