Okay, so I got the chance to book a cruise with one of my best friends from work for a really cheap price. So I set sail on Aug 23rd! I have to get the ticket paid off by June 8th, which won't be a problem but I know i'll need new clothes long before then! And I'm talking about everything! Right now i'm an 18 and that's the smallest size in my closet so it won't be long before I'll need to go shopping. I intend to have a large garage sale to help fund some of the new clothes but I'm not sure i can make enough on just my old clothes I've been thinking about ways I could earn extra money to help pay for some of the things i'm going to need. I work a full time job so i've considered moonlighting but i'm also a single mom...any ideas!?

Hi.
How exciting that you get to go on a cruise! Having a yard sale is a great idea. The weather will soon be excellent, nearly always. I'd encourage you to get family and friends to contribute to your yard sale (as long as they'll agree to let you keep the money), so you can have a really awesome selection. Be sure to advertise in the paper and have signs everywhere.
Until then, look over your budget and see where you can trim back. For example, can you do without cable and put that money aside, for new undies? :) Do you use coupons when you grocery shop? If so, whatever you save, put that money aside, to be used for a new outfit.
Do you have a birthday coming up, before your trip? If so, let your family and friends know you are shamelessly asking for money for your trip, instead of presents. :)
Also, while I know you wouldn't want to get used underwear, consignment and thrift stores are great alternatives to buying new clothes. They will be new to you, and if you can't wear the clothes long, at least you'll know you didn't put too much money in them. :)
How old are your children? Get them involved. If they're of age to babysit, maybe a part of what they earn could be given to you. I know I would have done that for my mother. :)  If they're younger, maybe they could have a lemonade stand and share the proceeds with you.
God will bless you and provide the money needed for this trip. He "delights in giving good gifts to His children." If He gives you any creative ideas, go with them! :)
Blessings, and keep up posted.
Mary

Several years ago my sister and planned a trip to Hawaii.  With two small children and living week to week, I came up this idea.  Every time I wrote a check or ATM, I would subtract 1 dollars extra from the account.  I didnt miss the extra dollar and had quite a savings for spending money.

That's a great idea! I do something similar. Whenever I write an amount in my checkbook register (for a check or when using the debit card), I write down the original amount, but I subtract from the balance the amount rounded up to the nearest dollar. It gives me a nice savings cushion. No more bounced checks, and if I ever need it, it's there. It's surprising how quickly it adds up. :)

I dont know if you have a 1/2 national brand name store...but you can find great deals there.
as for fundraising.....try selling yourself on craigs list.
I have a client who sells last years clothes that way and what ever she isnt wanting anymore...
plus try selling goodies at your yard sale. I do that at the ones I get paid to run and make a little cash on the side..especially cold drinks and hot dogs..its amazing what you can make. I even have made baked goods and sold them....if you ask Wal Mart they sometimes allow you set up a table for stuff like that.
being healthy has its rewards....take the challenge and just do it

My wife were at the bank of couple of months ago, and this guy brings in one of those large water bottles (5 gal. I think).  It was filled not even 1/2 way full, maybe 1/4 way full.  We watched him bring it in, then watched the teller dumping it in the coin counter.  When it was all done, we couldn't help but ask him how much it was.  It was over $500!!!  He said he does this all year, and then cashes it in for extra vacation money.  When he buys something, he never gives the change, but just pays with bills.  Then at the end of the day, puts his change in the bottle.  We were amazed.  If you also can work at home, I've heard ODesk is a site where you can take a test and data entry or transcription jobs come up to apply for.  PM Jenzilla -- she has something interesting too for work at home, if you have the time.  Good luck and have fun on that cruise.  Michael
