thinking of having gastric sleeve

Thanks for all the positive comments.  I know that this is what I want to do but when you start telling others they freak out and don't understand why you would want to do something so "drastic" (of course they are my skinny friends).  My husband and my family support me 100%.  I don't have any significant health problems at this time and want to take control of my life before I do.  My father,  grandmother, and uncle all had their first heart attacks in their 30's as well as being dx'd with diabetes.  They went on to have open heart surgery in their 40's and all died in their 50's.  My father died at 50yrs and 2 months just 4 months after his retirement and the purchase of the fat boy Harley he had always wanted.  I saw my mom widowed at age 47 instead of having the time of their lives with retirement.  I do not want my family to go through the same thing.  I have recently turned 35 and consider myself lucky, no not lucky blessed that I havn't had problems yet.  I saw a few of guys at the PouchWise support group on Thursday night.  I enjoyed hearing your stories and look forward to having you help me as I make this journey towards surgery and lifetime change.

RNY on 12/27/17

That is what I am going to do.  I have researched and decided to get the VSG done.  It's less evasive then the RNY, with almost the same results.  Without dumping and vomiting.  I'm excited and I am working on losing 10 lbs before surgery.  I have lost 5 so far.  Research and do what you feel in your heart is the right surgery.  It's your health and you have to live with yourself and you want to be healthy and content.

I was 386 lbs at my consult, and amazingly enough, the only thing wrong with me (well, besides obesity) was high blood pressure. Given my BMI I should have probably chosen the RNY, but to appease my husband's fears, I choose the sleeve. I have never regretted that decision, I feel great and it has worked wonders. I was mostly a quantity eater and not a poor quality eater, sweets were not a problem, and today, everthing tastes too sweet that I can hardly stand them. In my opinion, it is a great surgery. And you are absolutely right in thinking ahead - I know I would have have been so lucky 5 years down the road. Good Luck!!
