OK, so i went in today for my 2 week post op check up. I have been on liquids since surgery on March 31st. According to my dietician today i would get to start scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes, applesauce, blendedmeats  (no red meat), and cottage cheese. My doc told me that i may want to stay on liquids for a while. So I asked how long do you think that it will be until i can advance. He said well maybe eggs at 8 weeks and mashed potatoes at 12 weeks!!!!!!!!! I am freaking out. According to the diet the dietician gave me at 12 weeks, i should be eating chicken, deli meat, veggies(soft) , string cheese, crackers, fish......I am so confused. The dietician wasnt there today so i couldn't talk to her about it. I have been waiting all week for this day so that i can start gettting othersources of protein. I don't know what to do? He didnt even comment on my loss. Pre surgery 277, DOS 264, today 247

Wow. I would be upset too. Of course I am still on soft foods at 6 weeks out. I was on liquids for 3 weeks. Good luck. Talk to the dietician soon.

Has he given a reason to prolong your liquid stage? My plan was pretty similar to what you described, two weeks on liquids, third week started the soft food stage, including most of what you mentioned with the exception of mashed potato (carbs and no nutritional value). First thing what I would do is to talk to your nutritionist, who should really be the one to monitor your nutrition, and then maybe you might want to find out why the two opinions don't coincide - that can be pretty confusing to a new post-op. Best of luck to you!

Hang in there!  I know it sounds like forever for now but some day it won't seem so bad.  (easy for me to say, eh?)  In the meantime, you'll lose tons of weight right now and that will really kick start you.  But please follow the advice from your doctor and nutritionist since you have paid them the big bucks for their expert knowledge.

PS  Maybe your doc had a fight with his wife this morning before work!  LOL!

You have done great on the loss!! It is so amazing to see the scales drop so quick I know how hard this stage was.....Now...about the diet...I am shocked....however; maybe....just maybe, he meant that the eggs are sometimes hard to take at first (I'm grabbing on any reasons right now). They need to get their stories straight on what to eat and not to eat. The doc and the Nut should be giving out the same diet info.  I would be so upset too. I was ready to eat a chicken, feathers and all by the time I could have that! Well of course, I could only eat 2 bites, not including feathers, but I was soooo ready!  We are able to email our Nut's at Weight Wise and they usually answer right away, which is very helpful when you have questions. I am just so sorry you are so upset, but I would save all your frustration until after you get to talk to the Nut. The doc had to have been totally mixed up with some other surgery or something.....That is just wrong! I know we all have different diets because of the difference in doctors but most of our time frames are pretty similar....Please don't get to down until you talk to the Nut...Keep your chin up and hang in there!

Dr. G did the same thing to me.  I was supposed to be on liquids for a LONG time.  He told me not to advance my diet.  I was bad and didn't listen though.  I'm not suggesting that you do that.  I do know he's very conservative.  I don't even know why they give you the diet because he wants you to be on liquids for about 2 months.  I know its frustrating.  Let me tell you though, it goes fast!  I can't believe its already been 4 months for me tomorrow.
You will get through this I promise!

I havent been able to get in touch with my nut, i think she may have been out yesterday. I am going to email her today. I did cheat and eat a couple bites of a scrambled egg last night and it went down great and tasted oh so good! I am still drinking my protein, i had just been looking so forward to having that egg and then he just shot me down. I am glad to hear that he told you the same thing and i am not the only one. If he was going to do that i wish that the wouldnt have even had me go to the class and give me the diet yet. I have been looking forward to the progression of food. My tummy actually growled this morning!

BTW, thank you to everyone for your support!

I am sure there is a very good reason wny Dr G would recommend this , I would talk with Janice , his nurse , and ask her to check into it , and then speak with the dietician. I trust him completely , so ultimately i would listen to what he says
