Little Discouraged Take 2

Well I will try this again.  I tried yesterday and it just dropped my post and I didn't want to write it again.

Reason I wrote was to just vent on the fact that I am doing my best to follow the program that the dieticians and Dr. B have given me.  I am loosing weight at a great level 100 lbs so far.  I follow stage three which is eat protein first and that is all I can usually get down with the exception of a few green beans or brocolli.

I  just can't figure out why when I metion that I think my success is due to being in ketosis I am met with a barrage of criticism and warnings.  I can't figure it out maybe I am completely wrong but what I am doing is working.  I am not a militant low carb person, I eat sugar free popsicles, I eat vegetables (what very little I can) but I stay in ketosis.  I am just surprised how it can be said this is not a ketotic diet yet they tell you eat protein first.

I know I am only a little over 2 mos post op and go for my first post op nutrition appt thursday but when your success is met with criticism you will get kinda jumpy especially when you fear you will get fat again at every bite.

I know I am rambling but I think we need to remember this journey is a journey we each have to go on and each person's success is a great accomplishment even if we don't agree with how they have done it.  I think we forget that many people out there would criiticise us just for having surgery.  We shouldn't criticise each other on what we eat just keep incouraging each other to reach that final goal.  Sorry for the long post just needed to vent.

You are doing a fantastic job Jeromy!!  I can't imagine anyone criticizing you for your success but then again...I've had people tell me I don't need to loose any more weight and ....I still have a ways to go for my goal.  As long as you feel good, are following the nut and doctors orders you need to ignore any other comments.  I'm thinking that most of us don't know when we are in ketosis anyway.  It was never mentioned to us that we should even check our ketone level so that could be why you are criticized???  Who knows.  What works for one isn't necessarily going to work for another.  I do know that when a diabetic is in ketosis that is not a good thing at all and in fact can be dangerous but that's a different thing I guess if you aren't diabetic.

That's why we are each on our OWN journey!!!  Just enjoy your success and I'm sure you will be at goal in no time at all.  If you have questions just shoot them to Dr. B and the nutritionist.  They are the only ones you really need to listen to anyway.

Jeremy you keep doing what Dr. B , Jess or Chris is telling you to do and to heck with anyone else!  They are not carrying around your fat - you are.  So as long as you feel fine and are working with your doctor then don't worry about it!  Keep it up!

I agree with the fabulous ladies above.  We are on a doctor monitored diet because of a specific surgery we elected to have in order to promote a more healthy lifestyle.  Sure ketotic diets have their issues.  What diet doesn't?  For us, this is what works.  Drs. W and B wouldn't be doing this if we wouldn't have a very good chance of being healthy.  That's why followups are so important.  We have to be sure we are staying healthy despite our vastly reduced intake capability.

I'm happy.  Happier than I have been in a long time.  I don't care what anyone thinks about what I have done to become healthier.  It's *MY* choice.  The good news is that everyone around me is supportive of my choice.  I chose not to surround myself with people who would criticize me about WLS.  Those kinds of people usually aren't happy with some facet of their lives and choose to lash out at your choice.  They are NOT experts to boot!  When anyone criticizes, ask them where they got their doctorate and did their internship.  No answer, no opinion.

Listen NOT to the criticism!  Rather see the results of your choice in the mirror every day.  You did the right thing.

You vented now its my turn...Who in the side of heaven has the friggin right to say what you are doing is wrong? WHO MADE THEM THE JUDGE AND JURY??
It just infuriates me when people who claim to be friends want to judge us... I say this to all of those they can kiss my skinny BUTT all the way to Mexico...
Plus men lose weight faster than women do and if they are over 400+ you gonna lose it real quick...So sweetcakes just look at those that say crap about you as jealous wannabes and go on and do the dew....
Hugs to ya and
thank you for reposting this.
being healthy has its rewards....take the challenge and just do it

I'm sorry that anyone has criticized you particularly since you are such a resounding success and are following the pouch rules.  Ignore them!  Maybe it's jealousy since you're rocking that sleeve!

Don't let other people change your positive outlook!  You are such an inspiration and are blazing your own trail!  You will NOT gain your weight back!

Jeremy;

You and Jay are actually great inspiration, not because of the number on the scale, but because you are focused, you know what you want out of this journey and you seem to bottom line "get it"!! You get what this is all about.

From my experience, if you follow Dr. B's and the dietician's plan, you will lose the weight and will not regain it - I know, because I stumbled a few times, and only when I get back to basic protein and veggie I start losing again. There is no mistery about it - just follow the plan as you are doing. Opinions don't mean anything, if you are happy and satisfied with the plan you are following, anyone else can just zip it and adjust their plan as they see fit!

As you well know, this is not about reaching a goal, this is about living a new lifestyle and develop a healthy relationship with food and that is what our program is all about - the goal will be reached. Just keep doing what you are doing, and remember that opinions are just that opinions, no way to match what your doctor and dietician dictate - remember...they know what they are doing! The opinionated ones...not so sure!

You rock, Dude!  You are following the instructions you were given.  It is great for you that the diet you eat allows you to be in ketosis.  I think men in general have an easier time staying in ketosis than women.  You are very fortunate.  Count your blessings and to heck with naysayers!

I have maintained for one year at this point.  I am steady at -120 pounds.  =)
