HOwdy, OH friends.. Long time no chat..

I wanted to pop in and say THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR YOUR PRAYERS AND CONCERN ABOUT MY DH TREVOR, I really appreciated each and every one of them.. We are home now, we spent 2 weeks in the hospital with a viral infection causing a dangersous pnumonia..  We have been going to doctor visits every other day and having chest x-rays to check the status of the pnumonia.   We had a visit today with his primary care doc..  He had lab drawn, white blood cell count is still up a bit, had another chest x-ray, and made another visit for next week.  Trevor looks so much better than he did in the hospital but he still has a very long and slow road back to 100% recovery.  He will be off of work for at least a month and we will re evaulate at that time..  I want to make sure he is 100% well before returning back to work.    I have to give him iv antibotics daily to help fight the infection,  nursing has never been my forteigh, and I have had to learn a lot of patience.   I have become a caretaker for him and my children all day and it seems like there is never enough time for myself.

On my update: I have lost 91 pounds since 12/24/08..  It's been a wonderful journey.  I am finding that I have been losing hair like crazy for about 3 weeks now.   I can tell it's thinning out but others just assume I have recently gotten a hair cut.. The bangs are awfully thin and you can see my divide line on top of my head.   Since the hospital stay, I find I just can't eat.  I seem to eat to fast, because I am taking care of DH and kiddos that it's hard to focus on slowing down and chewing for myself.  So I usually just throw up after I eat because I feel so uncomfortable.   And here's another BIG ONE... I haven't been back for my 6 week check up.. I went for the 2 week diet class but that's it.. I know Dr B is going to kick my tooshie... As soon as I feel comfortable with leaving DH for a day, I will make a appt and get my check up in.. It's just so hard right now with everything going on.

The kids are finally doing better, they were sick for a month straight..  So that's my update, hope everyone is doing okay..

Thanks again for all of the prayers and well wishes,
Sheila

I don't understand.  I am really happy for you that you have lost  91 pounds since 12-21-08.  I had surgery on 2-13-09 which was 7 weeks later than you had yours.  I used Dr. B and also had the sleeve.  I just can not loose weight like I should.  It has been 8 weeks since I had surgery.  I am only down 22 pounds since the day of surgery.  I lost 14 pounds prior to surgery.     I am not eating anything that I should not eat, nor am I drinking anything that I should not drink.  I have not even had a diet pepsi.   I really get discouraged when I read all the good results that you'll are having, but I can not understand why I am not loosing like I should.  If I was cheating on my diet I could understand but I am not cheating I am only eating what I should eat.  I am really happy for all of you guys that are loosing, but I just do not understand why I am not loosing like everybody else.
Does anyone have any suggestion?  I would really appreciate it.
Thanks
Jo Ann

JoeJoe I don't know why you aren't loosing fast but you are only 8 weeks out.  I don't know how heavy you were when you started either and that makes a difference too.  Those who have a lot to loose will naturally loose more faster.  We have a lot of folks who are what are referred to as "lightweights" and h ave under 100 pounds to loose and it will come off a little slower.  Just remember this isn't a race or contest but a new way of life for you.  The weight will come off....I promise!!!

Thanks for the update.  I am glad Trevor is finally at home and doing better.  Dr. B will understand that you have been way too busy for a 6 week check up.  He will not chew your rear for being late.  Take care of yourself, eat slowly enough to keep it down- if you get sick or end up with a nutritional imbalance from vomiting you will be of no use to your family.
I have maintained for one year at this point.  I am steady at -120 pounds.  =)

Glad to hear things are improving and kudos on the weight loss!  However it sounds like you're getting "caregivers syndrome".  That's where you neglect yourself in your efforts to take care of others.  Your hair loss could be because your not getting good nutrition or it could be from all the stress you've been under.

Take care of yourself, Sheila!!

WooHooHoo Sheila!  I'm glad that your husband is doing better.  It has been a long process I know and extremely stressful.  On the other hand you are kicking some major butt with your weight loss.  Just get ready for those shorts this summer girlfriend!!!  You just need to remember to take care of yourself in all of this.  You are important espcially now that you have so many who depend on you for their care.  Just take care, chew chew chew and drink drink drink.  Eating does no good if you are throwing it all up a lot!!!

I'm glad things are turning around for you.  I am going to blaspheme here and suggest that you get some ready mixed protein shakes and sip them until things settled down for you.  It will keep you hydrated and give you some nutrition and you can work on your relationship with food at another time.

I keep them handy for stressful times (illnesses, death) because in my world, it's better to get some hydration and nutrition than try to eat slowly when my emotions just won't let me.

Thanks everyone, this is going to be one day at a time...  But hopefully, I can get back into the swing of things and get back to normal here...  I will have to get some pre-made shakes I am sure that will help out a lot..

Glad to be back again,
Sheila

I am glad that things are settling down for you and that your hubby is on the mend. I have to say I agree on the ready mix  drinks till things settle down. See they arent taboo with my doctor he recommends using them afterwards at least one a day to help make sure you hit yoru protien goal.

Having the time of my life!
