Calling on all my buddies to please post a message of encouragement to a lurker who I will call "s".  She had her VSG done Wednesday night.  We all know how difficult that first weeks with no food can be.  If you have a minute please shout out a tip or two that got you through.  I told her I had buyers remorse and not to worry if she did too.  She had her surgery and weight wise and went home today.

Anyway, I told her this was an amazing support group so please help me welcome her.

Sip Sip Sip and walk walk walk, probably should alternate tho :)  I'm not sure how long you have to be on a liquid diet but really, for me at least,  I didn't care about food at all until I was about 2 weeks out and even then I just wanted something that wasn't liquid!

make sure you get your protein in, walk even if it hurts and then walk some, make sure you take a laxative, dont lift or strain and drink that clear liquid thats called water.
AND ENJOY the days ahead
being healthy has its rewards....take the challenge and just do it

Hello "s."
Congratulations on your VSG! Because I didn't feel hungry those first few weeks, I didn't feel thirsty, either, so it was a chore to get in the liquid. I used a 2 oz. shot glass and kept track on paper, to make sure I got in the 64 oz. per day. It was work, I'll tell you (as I'm sure you're finding out).
I also set a timer, and every 15 minutes, I got up and walked through several rooms and back. I did NOT want a blood clot, if I could do anything about it!
When I felt a bit weak, physically, I knew I needed to have some broth, not jus****er. The key is to mix things up. Have some caffeine-free hot tea, some Crystal Light, a bit of sugar-free jello, and a sugar-free popsicle, as well as various flavors of broth (homemade is best). See whether your tummy wants cold, room temperature, or ho****er, and know that one day it may be one way and the next day another way! :)  I learned that "the tummy rules!"
Remind yourself that the days WILL pass, and each one will be better than the day before. I had to deal with Thanksgiving as an early-out post-op, so I know how hard it can be. I wasn't really hungry, but I remember experiencing head hunger. Sometimes I just had to get tough with myself, like talking to a spoiled brat. :)
Keep reminding yourself of why you had the surgery. That helps. Let others baby you a bit. Take time to read a good book and nap as often as you can. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. The summit is worth the climb! :)
Blessings,
Mary

Welcome to the Okie board Madam "S"!  Here is thought that kept me going on the liquid stage which I really hated!  I knew it was my job to protect my staple line and the fine work of the surgeon.  It would all be for nothing if I damaged his work.  So hang in there, complain, wail, cry, but don't eat!  Some day all of this will seem funny to you!  No, really!  I promise!  I'm serious.  You WILL make it and be way skinnier on the other side!

Much good luck you you and a big congratulations to you!

Welcome to the boards, Lady S.  Glad to have you aboard the loser's bench.  You are supposed to feel  like poo right now.  You just had major surgery!  You made a wonderful decision that will improve the quality of your life in ways you cannot imagine right now.  Sip, sip, sip, and walk, walk, walk!  That is your job right now.

For me, the first 2 weeks were the hardest part of the journey.  I am now just over 10 months out.  I am living a life I could not even imagine 10 months ago.  Life is good, really good.  Handle the head hunger any way you have to except for eating!  The first week was the hardest by far and then it got easier after that.

Please post so we can answer any specific questions you might have.  Now is when you need this wonderful group of people the most.

I have maintained for one year at this point.  I am steady at -120 pounds.  =)

Hello *S*

I too had a case of buyers remorse. I woke up thinking OMG what have I done to myself especially about day 3-4 I wanted a time machine bad, NOW I want a time machine so I can go back and have done this sooner.  My best advise is simply listen to your body and if YOU think something isn't right then go ahead and call and get the doctors opinion. I am a worrier and made things worse thinking what if, so come on here and post or call teh doctor. They know what they have done to you BUT you know your body the best.

Hello lady S

I am 7 days post op with RNY and I am in the liqueid stage. I am very sore and struggle every day to get my 64 oz of liquids in I have seemed to fail this everyday because I am not hungry at all and nothing seems to taste good and I just plan don't feel good. The first few days I have asked my husband what I was thinking and than I steped on the scales yesterday and I had lost 13 lbs since last thurs. I have lost a total of 27 lbs since marc 22nd no I don't doubt what I have done. I will tell you this is the best group of men and women to get help from they have been there and are more than willing to help you out. Welcome to the bench it will be a wonderful ride but all rides are bummpy at first.

Amy, any friend of yours is a friend of ours! Ms. X Welcome I am posting my ideas on liquids that I used while on them. I checked with my nutritionist and she said this was good but to be sure NOT to use any tomato products. Maybe this will help some. It did pass the time trying to come up with things...The other thing is to get out of the house! I was wonderful and passed the time to just go to Walmart and walk. I also began working on a Family Cookbook which has really passed the days away, so if you don't have a hobby or something to pass the time....create one. Even if it is just coloring with kids or reading...It will keep you busy.
Congratulations on the new you! When YOU are ready, we are hear for support and encouragment.
