Has anyone had recent RNY with Dr. G?  Can you give me a run down of out of pocket to expect?

Hi Dana...

On your initial visit you have to pay $200. That pretty much tells them you are serious and that your not just wasting their time. Once you get a surgery date you will pay a $400 down payment to Dr. G and a $200 down Payment to Dr. Kirk (I actually got part of that one back)

The rest is really up to your insurance....

I hope I was helpful. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Do you mind if I ask what the hospital charge was?  Im sure it is all subjective to insurance, but just curious.  We finally got in touch with Cindy Lou-Hoo...just kidding Cindy Taylor Lamb's billing office and they said they would just bill Aetna (said they accept, but not always pay) and then bill us.  We paid the $200 at beginning.  Have a letter saying $150 to Dr. G & $200 Dr. Kirk.  So it sounds like things are lining up with what you paid.  4 more different visits one out patient scope and hopefully surgery day.  After all the "upfront" stuff, im amazed at how much still left to do.  We were expecting at least a 6 week wait and instead only 20 days to complete the "end phase"  But really glad we arent having to wait.  Did you have the scope done at Bailey?  I forgot that is another charge.  Good thing I know from experience what a great thing RNY is

I didnt know there was even a possibility of getting any money back.  That would be nice.  Looks like you are doing great.  Its been so long for me that I am having a hard time remembering how much how fast!  We have a vacation planned late June and Im so excited that my husband will be minus alot of weight.  He will have so much more fun!!

I just had my rny done with Dr G. I had a 200.00 intake apt (you do not get this back) than I had to have my sleep study and psych eval done before they would submit to insurance. Once I was approved from my insurance company i had to pay a 100.00 deposit to Dr g's office and than a 200.00 deposit to Dr Kirk's office. I had to have a egd done at Bailey and I have not seen the bill on that one but I know it is expensive. I also had to have a vena cava filter place due to a high bmi and that was around 8,000.00 before billed to insurance. I had to pay all the office co-pays to Dr burks office, Dr Britts office and Dr Kirks Office that was a totel of 100.00.  Than the receptionist at Bailey said if I had any out of pocket expense left to be paid on my insurance I wuld have to have that paid the day of surg (my insurance has a 1650.00 per person out of poket expense than thay pay a 100%. The day of my egd I still had over 1,000.00 left on my out of poket expense the day of surg o. It is all well worth it I have lost 27 lbs since March 22nd.

Sounds like you are doing great!  27lbs since 3/22!  I think Ive figured out everything except the actual Med Center.  Did you pay something the day of the surgery?  All they would say today is they would be able to tell me at a later date, but before surgery.  Well, if they tell me I need several thousand dollars, I need to be a bit more prepared than what I have in my checking account!

I didn't have to pay anything the day of surgery.  I had to pay Dr. G 400 for the surgery (excluding my 200 at the intake) and 200 to Dr. Kirk.  I have BlueLincs and the total that was charged to my insurance for the surgery was 26K.  I have not gotten anything from my insurance except a statement saying that this is not a bill.  Baily is wanting me to pay 600.00 but until I hear from my insurance that it's not covered I am not paying it.  I haven't gotten a refund yet but would love to see a check soon :)  I absolutely loved the nurses and it was nice to find out that some of them were also post-op and could relate to what I was going through.

I hope that is what I get to do, but I want to be ready.  I need to chill out!  Today is his cardio appt.  I remember that one well.  For some reason I thought if I didnt walk/run till they said I could stop I would be denied surgery.  I started seeing white spots and decided I probably should stop :)
