I am 7 days post op and still in a lot of pain. I have had alot of dizzy spells and have fallen several times in the last few days. I called the Dr's office and he ordered lab work. I went and had my labs drawn yesterday and my cousin said my kidney functions (bun) is very low. I can not get all my fluids in I have tried and tried any suggestions on what can help me?

Thanks
Christina

I'm so sorry you are having problems.  Hopefully now that you have your labs done Dr. G will be able to fix you up.  Its probably something minor and you will be back up and running in no time!

You may be dehydrated.  My symptoms were dizziness, nausea, lethargy, and low kidney function marked by infrequent and very dark urine.  It's REALLY easy to do in the first couple of weeks.  You may need some IV fluids.  A good portion of patients end up needing this kind of help so you are not alone.

Best of luck!!

Christina, not to scare you, but Winne also had some falling spells with post op and he had a leak. He also became dehydrated. Do not let this go on without insisting they check for these things. You may need to go in and have an IV treatment to get your fluids back up. I understand the not getting the fluids in....I am forcing myself lately because I know it is better to be hydrated than to eat, but I am not hungry or thirsty at all. Just stay on top of this and don't be afraid to ask them to check for things! You HAVE to right now. It is too important to wait on.

Yeah, I had a 2 liter hematoma in my belly that caused all kinds of weakness and falling down.  It was shock from the blood loss.  It's rare but it does happen.  Have your doc check your hemoglobin levels.  Normal is 14-15 and anything below that might indicate a problem.  Mine got as low as 8 when I was in for the complication.

Not wanting to scare you but don't waste any time.  I did and it made things worse.

Again, good luck!!

You could well be dehydrated with the symptoms you have described.  If so, only IV fluids can get your level back up.  Don't wait-get it checked out.
I found that sugar free popsicles and sugar free snow cones are one way of getting more fluid in.  They just kind of melt in your mouth.
