I know that no one likes to address the issue of will's, medical directives and letters to loved ones just in case. But I would like to know if you post~oppers did any of these things.

While I am 100% confidant in my Surgeon and that I will be just fine, I have to face facts this is Major Surgery and there are risks.

Before Hubby went to Iraq last tour he did all of these things just in case, so it has me thinking I need to do the same.
Is it crazy on my part to think about this now??

No, it's not crazy. I did not leave a will before surgery, but I did write a letter to my teenage daughter, because I felt she was and is my real true responsibility and wanted her to know why I chose the surgery, etc.... - I sort of felt I owed her an explanation, in case something would happen. I told my husband to shred it once I was home from the hospital, so she never saw the letter. I think you need to do what you think is right to do, things can happen to anyone and it's ok, these are not bad thoughts - they are a result of our responsibility as adults and caregivers.

I know everything will turn out just fine!

Thanks Anna
My Kids are grown, but live at home. But I did plan on writing them a letter as well as Hubby and a few others.

I did all of the above.  I have a personal phobia of being left to live on a machine and as I had little kids and have been a single mom for 7 years I felt the need to cover all my bases to make sure they were taken care of just in case.  I did the same the year before when I underwent surgery for a different issue.

You are not morbid alot of u,s when we get to the point we need the surgery are well aware of our health issues and the matter of possible death anyway. To be prepared is better than to have regrets of not being able to do or say things.

Yes, I have a living will/ medical directive just in case something should happen to me.  I already had one before WLS so it wasn't done because of that.  I think having all these legal documents in place is a wise decision whether you are having surgery or not.  No one is guaranteed another day in life.

I did not write any letters since I have left nothing unsaid to my son or family.

I have maintained for one year at this point.  I am steady at -120 pounds.  =)

I did not do any of this stuff. I had such peace about the surgery I didn't feel it necessary.

Emily I too have peace about the surgery, Im not in the least worried. Its just I am more aware of the need to do this stuff the older I get & with having hubby in pretty much constant danger due to being on the bomb squad it just makes since to me on  more than one level..

I would encourage you to do whatever makes you feel better. I did all those things. Of course, my family chalked it up to me wanting to have the final word (in case I didn't make it through). LOL. I just saw it as being repsonsible and caring. It's nice to know it's all done, for whenever. :)
Blessings,
Mary

I went and made sure my burial insurance was updated, that the burial plots I had were in legal order and I made sure that my will was updated and that my medical proxy was what I wanted. I chose not to have a living will but to have a proxy..a person who could legally make decisions on behalf if I was menatlly unable to do so. And then I had all my insurance policies in correct order and had all important papers given to my proxy. Lastly I wrote anyone who I cared about in any way a letter to begiven to them in case I died. For each surgery I have done this...and made sure that the hospital, surgeon and all involved had proper documentation....My poor insurance agent kinda cringes when I call anymore.
Its better to be safe and to make sure your loved ones are provided for then to leave it undone.
My finace claims I am to organized and he thought I was being paranoid. But I wanted to amke sure that everything was taken care  of..right down to my dog....
And if its crazy to be prepared then I sure am a looney
being healthy has its rewards....take the challenge and just do it
