A compliment?

I made my first pair of cutoffs of the spring and braided the cut off legs.  I let Oliver parrot pick from the two before giving the other one to the dogs to play with.

Oliver really liked his toy.  He wolf whistled and said (I will type this verbatim)

"Whatcha doing?   OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH what a pretty girl!  (BURP)."

Ok, he had me till the burp.  He's clearly an Okie boy.

Right now he's taunting Prissy- He calls her name then gives her an order-SIT, or he calls here kitty kitty kitty-(and he knows she's not a kitty).

How can he be so smart?  Are birds really that smart?  Picking on the dog is pretty sophisticated!

Different sources rate him some where between a human 3 year old and a 6 year old.... (Well, all Greys, not just Oliver) with simillar impulse control too.  He knows what he's supposed to do and not suppose to do, but on any given day, decides whether or not to comply.

He also picks on the cat-by meowing at her and calling here kitty kitty-and if the parakeets get into a big squabble he'll squawk at them and yell BE QUIET, (or even better) GOOD LORD!  SHUT UP!.

He had some rougher language when I got him, but he rarely curses any more.  He usually saves the BAD words for when there are people around.

When he's bored and I'm in another part of the house he'll holler "Watchu doin? " and if I don't answer he'll say, "Watchu doing, HUH? "

He's pretty good about not being aggressive towards the other animals, I've sat in my chair with Oliver, Prissy and the Cat and all got along fine.  I've never let him close to other people-Greys are notorious for being one person birds, and he's never acted like he wanted to go to someone else.  I generally just keep put him in his cage when there are people in the house, safer for everyone.

I'm having a pergola put in the front yard, so I'll move him over to the window when they start on that-He loves to holler at people while they are working.  He has a stand I move around the house so he can perch and watch whatever is most interesting.

I will have to block off the dog door when he's in the sun room though-he's smart enough to figure that out very quickly.

Another dream busted!  I had visions of meeting Oliver one day and having a chat.  Didn't know he was a one person bird!!!  But I still love him.  Can't wait to hear the stories of what he has to say during the construction!

Don't lose the vision-he's come so far since I got him that one day he could be a social butterfly.  He still won't talk when I'm in the room either, but he likes to holler at people-so we can sit on the Porch and ya'll can holler back and forth.

It's bizarre, he doesn't want anyone to look at him, but he doesn't want to be ignored either.

Kinda like the stray kitten I once had that wanted to be petted but not touched!

Cat's are pretty much like that.  When mine wants to be petted, she will shove herself in my hands-but if I want to touch her on my own, she'd rather I not.
