Getting closer

Hi all my lovelies :)

I had my final 3-month supervised visit with my doctor on Friday.  I still have 2 more appointments left with my exercise person and 2 more with the dietician, but hey not much more!! :)  I lost 9 pounds in 2 weeks, which is good.  I talked to my doc about the RNY, and after having a good discussion, we decided the band would probably be best for me.  I loved the fact that you can lose weight so quickly with RNY, but since I don't have any serious comorbidies, ie, diabetes, high blood pressure or anything like that he felt that it would probably be better for me to undergo the band.  I have to agree with him.   I count my lucky stars every day that I don't have serious morbidities other than being overweight and having low back pain and PCOS, and he thinks I might have sleep apnea.  So, I will have to get a CPAP.  He couldn't find my sleep study report, but I told him they fitted me with a CPAP mask during the split night study.  So, he said I probably have it.

He also told me that if I get my appointments done then I could possibly be looking at maybe within the next 4 weeks.  Yipppeeee!! I think it will take a little longer though since I still have to finish up my visits with the people at Pacer fitness.  But, he told me the experience with my insurance was like 99% of the time they approve.  So, that made my day as well.

I'm still taking those Pristiq things he prescribed and I have to say they are WORKING! I don't have much of an appetite anymore and I don't binge eat anymore or crave anything.  So, I think this will help so much during the preop phase and probably postop too if I can continue to take them that long.

I have been going through a tough time for the last week with missing my mom so much.  I have finally started to dream about her and have for the last couple of nights, but I just miss her so much.  She would be so happy that I was finally doing something about my weight.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend.  Save me some room on that bench.  I hope to be there within the next couple of months

HUGS and love,
Paulette

There is always room on this bench for more Paulette and your place is saved! It will be here in no time. I am excited for you and know it will be a dream come true for you too.  Yes, your mother would be so proud that you are taking these steps to become healthy again.

I'm curious about the Prista? What is it? My sister is trying her best to fight her weight and can't do the surgery because she is in the military and it would disqualify her from serving or some strange thing....Anyway I was wondering what it was and if maybe it would help her.

Hi Ms. Sherry :)

Thank you so much :) I really can't wait.  Pristiq is actually an antidepressant that my doctor prescribed to see if it would help with my hunger issues.  He had asked me what I found so difficult about trying to stick to a diet and I told him plain old being hungry.  So, he prescribed it for me.  I have been taking it for about 3 weeks and last week was when I really noticed the difference in my eating patterns.  I haven't been grazing or overeating when I do eat.  I can pretty much stick to 3 meals a day and 2 light snacks and have been having good luck with it over the last couple of weeks.  It seemed to me the first week I felt hungrier, but now I haven't been having any kind of food cravings.  It's really strange.  I really didn't expect it to work.  I was actually prepared to take it for the month and then stop, but since it's working and I know my preop diet will be coming up, I might stay on it for a little while longer.  I'm just so happy I'm not feeling hungry and craving things all the time.

Hugs and love,

Paulette

There is always room on the never ending loser's bench. I will personally save you a spot. so happy to hear you  are getting all  things done to get your surgery. Congrats on making an informed decision. I know some folks who have had great success with the lap band. Can't wait to hear you have a date.

Here's your side of the bench just remember that alor have sit where you are and now have gone on to better things in their new bodies.
For me I was scared with the thought of a foreign object being in my body and then having to pay for fills.
Wls is an adventure! So welcome to it and enjoy the ride. Just makes me angry you have to wait so long...red tape urrgh
being healthy has its rewards....take the challenge and just do it

Paulette, Glad to hear you are moving right along in your journey!  I am very happy with my band, true, it is not as fast as the RNY or VSG but it was totally right for me (no serious comorbidities) .  All surgeries are tools that we have to use to make them work, but they are very helpful on the losers bench!  Enjoy the journey!

Every day brings you closer still.  I'm very happy with my band and I know Dr. G is a great surgeon.  You are so wise to get this taken care of BEFORE the comorbididies creep in-because it's not IF but WHEN.  I am pretty sure I dodge several bullets that were speeding my way by having the surgery.
