Update on brother in hospital

The surgeon finally came by and spoke to Mark.  The infection in his leg is a staph infection.  I don't think it's MRSA since it moves so quickly and this has been going on for a while.  They are taking him in to surgery tomorrow at some point to remove the arterial graft.  Nothing is really known about how it will go until they open up the spot and look.  We can only hope it's fixable and Mark will recover.

I'll update as I get information.

Thanks again for all the thoughts, prayers, and well-wishes.  My family needs it more than ever now.

Is it possible that the arterial graft is the source (or beginning point) of the infection?
I'm praying for a good outcome. No fear; just faith.
Blessings,
Mary

This is a distinct possibility.  The plastics used are porous and once the bacteria takes up residence, it doesn't want to leave and no amount of antibiotic will fix the situation.

Jay,

At least they did talk to him and you are better informed. I will continue to keep you all in my prayers.

Winnie, I had MRSA and it does not move real fast except for a certain strain. They will do a nasal or rectum test for it and if it MRSA the treatment is antibiotics along with removal of the infected area. I had three back to back surgeries for MRSA and then months later another one. Either way the infected area will be removed. Does he have any dark bruising near the infected area? if thats a sign of MRSA..nothing to be scared of just keep your faith and believe that all will be well. Sweetcakes you brother is in the master physicians hands so he will be fine
hugs and prayers for you and yours

Thanks for the update as it helps to know specifics in our prayers. I do hope your parents are doing ok through all this. I'm praying for them and for the doctors to find the source of this and to be able to take care of it. Take care of yourself too!

Keep us updated.

Sherry
