hello i havent had the VSG done so I am not real sure on wht they are allowed but I m sure one of teh VSG ladies will be along shorty. Wht are you wanting to know about the protien and vitamins. I cna give you some basic ideals if I know what your questions are. If you post a list of what you want to know I am sure we can get then answered some how.
At 1 month out, we were allowed anything we wanted to eat as we only had to do mushies for 2 weeks. He MUST eat protein first at every meal an avoid pasta, rice, potatoes and bread forever!
He must drink at least 64 ozs of water or other no-calorie, decaf beverage of his choice. We cannot drink for 1 hour after eating so as not to wash the food from the tummy too quickly so we stay full longer.
We are required to take 2 mult vitamins a day, calcium 3 times a day, iron every day for most (not sure about men!) and a sublingual B12 once a week.
If he hasn't progressed pass mushies yet, he might try tuna or chicken salad first with light mayo. But I find that I stay full longer if I eat very dense protein such as chicken.
I haven't had any hearburn or acid issues since surgery but I would recommend over-the-counter Prilosec for that.
Oh, and NEVER drink any carbonated beverages. They are too hard on the new tummy and could stretch it.
He has done very well on the weight loss, sounds like. Let us know if you have any more questions.
One quick thing - I have not been given any specific requirements in terms of grams of protein per day. I just have to make sure I eat protein first. When I do track it, I'm getting about 70 grams of protein a day and that's working for me.

I don't have anything to add to Glitters list of do's but I will say that right now, until I can get enough protein in, I am drinking one protein shake a day. This kind has 26 grams of protein in it and 2 carbs. I mix it with Braums milk which gives me 13 more grams of protein. I try to drink it mid morning or mid afternoon. Later I can put fruit in it, but for now I just add flavored syrup. When I can get more protein in at a meal. I will drop this unless I need it. Right now I am not able to get but a few teaspoons of protein in per meal. The main thing is to drink plenty of liquids ALWAYS!!

The cheap person that I am, I go to Walmart and buy one called Body Fortress Protein Whey, it's like $14 bucks or something for a 2 lb big container of it. It actually has 52 grams of protein when you use 2 scoops and its not bad that way. I use the one scoop and it is 26 grams. It comes in like 4 flavors I think. I have 3 of them and use them all off and on so I don't get sick of any one. I loved it before surgery and still like it now so that helps. I think it mixes well too. I like the chocolate one as a hot chocolate drink flavor. Lately, I have been using a scoop and a half to besure and get all my protein in. I'm hoping that might keep my hair in later! Who knows?? It may be hopeless. Before surgery I put coffee in the vanilla one and added a 1/4 tsp of vanilla. It was really pretty good, except it jacked my blood sugar up so I had to stop that. I am not a coffee drinker any way so I was ok. I just needed the energy some days so I hyped out on coffee.

It has a total of 2 carbs in the Vanilla and I think 3 in the Chocolate, so it is very good in that dept also. It also has tons of vitamins and minerals in it. So for me, I will stick with it.
I wonder if the milk could have had an impact on you when you drank it instead of the protein powder? I don't know as I haven't had that problem but with that low of a sugar content, I wouldn't think it would do that, but I just couldn't say for sure. I made it without milk and used water while on the liquid stage and it was still an "ok" to drink. I prefer the milk but can do water fine too.

You've been given great information, so I'll just address the acid situation. Your husband should be on Prilosec OTC or something like that, 1-2 pills per day. If you have prescription coverage, Protonix is what we are prescribed for the first month. The kidney stones usually happen when one isn't taking in enough water. 64 ounces is the minimum. Your husband should try to get in 1/2 of his body weight in water (not more than 120 oz., though).
If you have any other questions, please post. We're not doctors, but we can share our experiences.
