First consult tomorrow
Revision on 02/21/12
Hi Arliene! Dr. Keith is not my Dr., but I can tell you how my first consultation with Dr. Walton went.
He asked me which surgery I wanted and we discussed the procedure some. He did a quick feel around my tummy to see if he felt any hernias or hardness or anything abnormal. Then we talked about the tests I needed and my plan of action. Then he talked about me needing to loose some weight before surgery. And that was it. I live 3 hours away from his office, so I made arrangements to get the blood work, EKG, and sleep study done locally but I saw the nut and the exercise ladies there at the clinic.
I know a woman who had Dr. Keith and she spoke highly of him and really liked him. She was a complicated case because of her age, but she has been successful with the surgery.
Good luck tomorrow!!

Airlene,
Dr. Keith's inital visit is pretty busy but he gets you on the road towards the surgery as quickly as possible, Let me see if I can remember everything we did.
Weighed in and went back over the typical doctor questions with the nurses, then you meet with the doctor himself and you discuss the procedure and such. You will also be asked if you have a goal in mind. I was then also required to meet with a lady who scheduled all of the following appointments ( Now keep in mind these are simply the appointments he sets you up with I already had a sleep test and cardio done for my own knowledge and health) You will be given a binder in which they will place everything from a calender of appointments to sample diets for each stage of yoru recovery and if you dont have a large required loss or a 6 month supervised diet from your insurance, you could very well walk out that day with your surgery date. I DID!!!
They also did a breathing function test and a EKG. I was then sent down stairs to the lab and they draw the first set of labs. Be prepared Dr. Keith is BIG on doing labs and watching your levels which is a good thing. I had a drop in potasium early put and the labs caught it before it became a real issue for me.
I hope this helps. Let me know when you are ready to attend your required support group before surgery and I will do my best to come meet you!

I am not sure on what each insurance requires I had Medicare and I had to lose 20 pounds in 12 weeks for them to pay for the surgery. Dr. Keith was spo positoive I would do it and that his NUTS would help me that even though it was a requirement he went a head and sat them all up convinced I would have the pounds off before the date and I did plus another 5. It would not hurt to take the reports with you that way if it is something they need you have it! Best of luck!

Well, I'm a little behind on this post LoL, but I wanted to say good luck on your consult with Dr Keith today. I've heard nothing but wonderful things about him (though I am partial to my own surgeon still hehe). I am Renae, almost 5 years post-op, my surgeon is Dr. Kenneth Warnock in Wichita Falls, TX. I have Tricare insurance myself and I know even the requirements they want of people have changed in the last 4-5 years so I am not much help where all the tests are concerned and such. I just hope everything goes well and I look forward to hearing your update!
