HELP!!! HUBBY IS FREAKING OUT!!!
Awwwww... I so totally know what you going thru. WHen I first mentioned surgery 2 yrs ago Mikey freaked. He was so totally against the whole idea and didnt want to really even talk about it. But this last summer I was diagnosed with several co~morbidities and am at my highest weight, so something had to give and he decided it was maybe something to consider, so in December I started the journey..
My Hubby is this big tuff Army Man who disarms bombs & IED's for a living an he is totally freaked out an scared to death about my upcoming surgery. He actually tears up when we talk about it. He told me he rather be in Iraq dealing with a carbomb than having to deal with this, and to tell you how bad that compairson is, he was blown up 5 times and got a purple heart + PTSD from his 2nd tour and he has been back there for a 3rd tour... But he is terrified of me having surgery...
I think that the fact that he has absolutely no control over the situation and puts my safety & health in the hands of another person is what is getting to him. I know when the time comes he is gonna put on his big boy boots and be a trooper...Ok that is what I hope he does, just in case my mom will be there too so he can curl up in a corner and suck his tumb (his words not mine)
I think I would be freaked if he wasnt worried at all (my x hubby was one to not be upset when I was having surgery and was like it was a total bother he had to even be there)
What I have done for him so he can get all the knowledge he would ever want about my surgery, I have sent him email's with links to many sites & videos. He has been at his leasure (when he thinks im not looking) watches videos of surgeries, reads message boards, and been to the surgery channel & watches every tv show about WLS. HE is finally becoming more comfortable with the idea of surgery. Thankfully his parents and my parents are 100% behind me in this as well as my kids and all of my friends. Knowledge is power & the more he has gained the more he is prepaired for this shared journey.

I MY RNY 5-5-09 Life is Good
Kim I think our hubby's would get along great! Mine went to basic at Ft. Sill back in 1992! Except it's not bombs, but driving truck and working the most dangerous oilfield jobs out there. But you've hit the nail on the head because that's exactly how mine feels--that he's not in the driver's seat with this one.
I will go over the surgery again and show him all the info I can by next Wednesday!
Thank you all so much for your advice! I know it'll help him to see he's not the only one who feels the way he does!

I just read where you have p.c.o.s and I wanted to let you know that I have a really bad case of this dreadfull medicall problem and I have two children. I have always been over wt but as soon as I had my first child I gained over a 100 lbs in 8 months and even more after I got preg with my son. My pcos got worse after each pregnancy. I do not know how in the world i ever carried a full term baby I had over 30 miscarriagies so it must have been gods will. So when I had gained up to 350lbs last summer I went and seen my pcp and told her I have to get this pcos undercontroll it is killing me. She said wls would be the best choice to make. I have talked to my surg and he said that people with pcos and choose to have the rny surg have the best chance of beating pcos.
