3 Week Stall....

Is there really such a thing?  If so, I've got it.  My poor scale has not moved in a week.  I hope it's nothing to worry about, and that I get over this stall soon.  It certainly is discouraging to stall this early.  It makes me just want to cry.

I had my lap RNY Feb 5th, and had a really rough time in the hospital, and afterward.  Dr. G said that due to my size and the amount of omentum fat I have he nearly had to open me up to do it the old fashioned way, and that he accidentally nicked my spleen.  I am much better now, thank goodness, and I went back to work last Monday, only to be fired by Thursday (long story).

So now I am looking for another job.  At least I am well enough to do so, or I would be in a world of hurt.  Oh well, this too shall pass, as I have a couple of interviews today, and I expect to be back in the ranks of the employed by Next Monday.

Thanks for the ear.

Hopefully  my sister, Happycat, will chime in here.  She also stalled early on and it was a big, old long stall.   (something like 28 days!)  Don't get discouraged!  I promise that you'll start to lose again and soon!

Good luck on the job hunt.  I hope the hunt is over almost as soon as it has begun!

Terrie I am so sorry that this has happened to you! You are not on a stall that only happens later on..after you have lost ALOT of weight..Your body is adjusting to what you have lost and is trying to hard to hold on to what you still have....Just make sure you get your protein and water in.
And I think going back to work so soon was not a great idea. Your body was still adjusting to Having SURGERY.
As for being opened versus lap I was opened and believe me weighing 399 at the time of surgery I bent Dr. Keith's instruments. I just can not believe DR. G. knicked your spleen by being open.. WAS HE BLIND????
Sorry if I am being rude today but that kind of stuff just gets my anger riled. As for the job you more than likely can sue them for firing you. You use the fact that you just came back from medical leave early..and fight like a a demon to get them to pay.
I hope that you do get to go back to work ASAP. and if ya need to rant we are here for ya....
hugs

Oh, no, I didn't have an open RNY, I had the Lap.RNY, however, he said that if it had been earlier in his career he would have HAD to open me up to do the surgery.  He said he had a really hard time keeping my "innards" (my mom's word, not mine, or the docs) out of the way, and in the process, he nicked my spleen.  I was pretty out of it, my surgery took 4 hours, and so this was all relayed to me by my mom, who stayed with me while I was in the hospital, and took care of me for a week in her home afterwards.  Yeah, she loves me, and I'm glad.

I'm glad I have you guys around, though.  I need reassurance sometimes, and I live alone with the exception of my 18 yr old son (my youngest), so he's not much good at that, and it's not like he's gonna say "Dang, Mama, You're Looking GOOD!" Because he's...well, he's a guy, and my kid, and he's just not gonna look at me that way.

I haven't been less than 250 since before my kiddo's were born, and my oldest is 19.  I can't tell you how long it's been since I've been able to paint my toenails, and that is something I am looking forward to doing. (I know, I'm such a girl).  I'm also looking forward to being out in the public again, something I have shyed away from for a LOOONG TIME.

Okay, this is long enough.  I guess I just have so much to say!

Thanks again,
Terrie

OK you are so early out that what you are experiencing is a readjustment time. Please realize that you are only 3 weeks out or so and most people do hit a "stall if you must" about that time. These ladies here had warned me in advance so I was ready for it and I just refused to weight that week or the next and when I got on in week 5 I had started dropping well. Just make sure you are getting your water, protein and vitamins and it will catch up to you.

Early out my scale didn't move for a few weeks!  I know its a bummer!  Don't worry though, it'll start moving again.  I am a slow loser hopefully you'll go faster then me!
Best of luck!

As early out as you are, and with the additional stress, I'm sure your body is just in WOW, what the heck happened mode.  I do believe that stress keeps weight on, over and above calories.

As for Dr. G-that comment was way out of line.  We don't bash docs on this forum and these are people, and human, and if you've ever watched a surgery on an obese person, it's amazing we didn't all end up knicked.

The job thing sucks on top of having to recover, and I can only offer prayers for a quick resolution.  There is never going to be a "good" time in our lives to lose a job, or have major surgery, so don't doubt your decision.  In a year from now you will be so much healthier.

I'm sorry if it came across that I was bashing anyone.  That certainly was not my intention, as I was only stating my cir****tances.  I think that with the aforementioned cir****tances that Dr. G did quite well, and I have healed quite quickly, and have had no ill effects.  Perhaps I should have also stated that in my original post.  If I have offended anyone, I truly do apologize, as I did not realize that I had.

I was actually commenting on Patti's "is he blind" comment, not yours.
