OT Does anyone know anyone who has had radiation on their thyroid?

My daughter, after having her thyroid removed 2 times now evidently has just a tiny amount left and is agressive enough to make her toxic once again. She had surgery 4 years ago to do a total thyroidectomy and it seems the doctor only took out half then she had to have surgery  again while pregnant to re-remove the rest , one year ago this Friday, but they were to close to her vocal cords to get this one little bit. It is making her really sick with joint pain, weakness yet hyperactive and all kinds of other crap, so they are start the radiation treatment on her this Friday. She can't be around anyone for 4 days and has to throw away and clean tons of stuff at her home afterwards....Does anyone know anyone who has undergone this? I am so worried about her....She has 3 little ones 3 and under, who will have to stay with me as the daddy is a teacher and baseball coach with baseball just starting.  How does it affect the person taking it? We have no idea what to expect. They told her she could do it at home since the cost to stay at the hospital is so much on a teacher's salary.

In the meantime, can you all help me to pray for her and the family and for me in trying to care for the 3 little ones....

My sister had to have her thyroid killed by radiation about 15 years ago.  She said it was no big deal and she's fine.  Of course she does have to take thyroid medication since she no longer has an active thyroid.  Your daughter will feel a hundred times better after she gets rid of her unstable thyroid.  It controls everything in your body so when it's out of whack it's no fun.  I'll pray for your daughter, but you should feel at peace about her radiation because everything will be so much better in the end.

I actually worked with a woman who had had this done, and just like your daughter, had small children at home at the time.  They had to stay with grandparents, and she did it at home too..again on a teacher's salary.  I didn't know her at the time, but she is in great health now.  She's a tiny little thing too.  It is very scary, for the person and the family, but it is very successful.  I will keep your daughter and you in my prayers.

The last time they did the surgery was when she was pregnant and the doctors were very concerned that because she was so toxic, it would cause her to lose the baby. This is scary but not as scary as that was....
