I've Made my decision
I made the decision Friday to have the RNY instead of the Lap Band. My main reason was my Diabetes and High BP. Today I started my 10 day pre-op diet. So far so good. Not exactly something you would order at Orange Julius, but not too bad. Thanks to everyone for all the input last week when I was having to make the switch from the VSG. February 24th, here I come!

Hi, Marsha.
For what it's worth, when I read your previous post, I was thinking RNY was a better choice for you. I just didn't want to say, as I know it's such a personal decision. Good luck. :)
Blessings,
Mary

I am happy you made a decision that is right for you ,,,the only thing i want to stress to anyone who may be considering lapband as an option it is possible and likely to rid yourself of any co-morbidities ,,,,I have ....just my 2 cents worth ,,,,i think lapband gets a bad rap here sometimes ,,,,i know Deb and I have both been very happy with ours ,,,,,though i would never doubt anyones choice ,, any choice to become healthy is a good one in my book ,,,i just want to make sure the right info is out there ...Good Luck ,, and have a speedy recovery

I was one of the few fat people who had no comorbidities at the time of surgery-although anyone with any sense could see that it was only a matter of time. My friend Sue is 6 years out from her lap band and is completely off insulin (she was insulin dependent) and BP medicine-but I have no idea how long it took.
However, I remember seeing a program that indicated there was something else going on with RNY and Diabetes beyond the weight loss-it was almost an "instant" cure-so that is definitely something to consider.
I'm glad you thought about it and are happy with your choice. I know it's not what you settled on first, and insurance companies really do annoy me, however I think you'll be happy with your RNY.
Marsha,
Congratulations on making your decision. I agree with you on it, but it is a personal choice, so I didn't recommend either. I am happy with my choice of RNY, although I know several people who have had lapband and done great! I think both are a good choice, depending on what the person wants.
Hugs,
Marsha
