Please help me. How much is an RNY for Self Pay ?

 Since, the Land Band did not work for me or I did not work with the Lap Band and I want to get a revision to a RNY.   However, BCBS Federal will not cover another surgery for me.    

So, I'm  going to have to go self pay for my RNY.  

What was the price  $$$ of your RNY?  

I'm going to Dr. Lana Nelson for my surgery.

I'm sure each doctor/facility has their own set price.  I paid $15,000 last March with WeightWise whi*****luded everything except labs and a few presurgical items.  This included a year of followups with the surgeon.  I think that package price now is about $18,000 or so.  I'm not positive but you can look at their website.  I do know it went up since last March.  It was so worth it for me and I am so blessed to have found a way to finance it personally.  Good luck.

I have my appointment with Dr. Nelson on Monday.  However, I will call Weight Wise and ask about there price for the RNY.  

Dr. Nelson charges between $15,000 -$22,000.  If I would have known that Weight Wise was that reasonable I would have called them first.  I deceided to go with Dr. Nelson because she was in my network for my insurance.  Since my insurance does not want to pay for my revision. I am going to pay so of course I want an excellent surgeon but I would also like to save some money too.   I will let you know what I find out and which surgeon I'm going with.

Before I chose Weightwise in August 2007 I went to a seminar at OWLO (Dr. Keith and Nelson) and the cash price for RNY ranged between $30,000 and $38,000 - it was never explained what the scenario was for either of those prices. If you are settled with that surgeon, you should call and see what the price is now - again, this was August 2007.

I know Dr. Gornichec at the time was $25,000 and Weightwise was $25,000; however, Weightwise prices I believe have lowered a bit.

I did not have the RNY so I can't say for sure, I had the VSG at Weightwise, which I believe is now $12,500.

I paid $15K for my RNY at WeightWise, plus around $1000 for pre and post op visits, and my surgery was in Sept.  My insurance paid for all the blood work, stress test, sleep study, etc.  WeightWise is the best in my opinion.  I know there are finance programs out there, and WeightWise has a brochure for some medical finance company where you check in.  Good luck, Michael

Wow! does this post make me very greatful that I have medical coverage that pays 100% for the surgery. I cant believe the prices varies so much depending on the doc & facility. Good Luck in getting your revision.

I'll bet you are greatful!  I would have had WLS years ago if my insurance would have covered it.  It's odd that the companies will pay for medications, procedures and hospital visits when you are ill but try to do something to help us get healthy...no go for a lot of the plans out there.  It was so worth the money I paid.  Less than I paid for my car and I'm hoping I outlast my car!!!

The self pay for RNY at OWLO was stated to be 26.000 all inclusive including followups for 6 months or a year, hospital and all. That was at the seminar in August 2008. You will want to call and see what they are now.

Thanks you guys for replying and sharing with me.  I will let you know who I decide to go with.  I believe Dr. Nelson and Dr. Broussard are both excellent surgeons.  However, I would like to save some money.  Can you feel me???
