Not so good news..need your help
Ok, here are my 2 cents!
I never considered lap band because I was a bit freaked out about the thought of the port and tubing in my body. I had heard about people with complications where the port flipped or slipped and just couldn't go there.
I very, very seriously considered RNY because I had 135 pounds to lose and love sweets. I wanted to be one that would dump if I ate sweets. But no one could guarantee that I would dump so that lead me to VSG.
I had VSG and am very pleased. I was self-pay so that factored in to my decision making too.
I guess it depends on how much you have to lose. People who need to lose larger amounts of weight tend to pick RNY. Also, if you have diabetes you may have a better result with RNY. But if you are a lightweight, the lap band may just be what the doctor ordered!
My ultimate deciding factor? I knew that I had to change my relationship with food and that I had about a year to do it. Period and end of story. Any obese person has to do this so you must pick the surgery you think gives you the best chance for success.
I'm sorry you find yourself in this situation but I wish you the best in your choice and on your journey!

Hi Marsha,
Yikes! what a dilemma and you have so little time to make a decision.
So, for what its worth here are my thoughts. No matter what form of surgery you choose - it has to be your choice.
Most importantly, remember NO type of procedure will work unless the patient is totally committed to making the necessary life style changes and following drs. orders and advice.
Hope this simplifies it for you. All the best and please be sure to keep us posted.

Marsha, as the others have stated I strongly suggest you do your research and know what is expected of you from each of the surgeries. Each surgery is just a tool and the success is ultimately up to you.I could talk to you all day about the pros and cons of each and which one I would choose, but it does need to be a personal choice and decision. Which ever one you choose, I wish you a speedy recover and best wishes. if I can help in any way please give me a shout, Rita
As everyone has stated here it is a very personal and important decision that needs to be made with your doctor. That being said, after all my research and knowing the years of data that have been recorded with the RNY and the Sleeve is fairly new but has been VERY successful with all my friends those are great procedures. I personally chose the RNY because I didn't want the maintenance of the lap band with the fills and unfills and the port and the band that could slip. I just wanted to do something pretty maintenance free....that's just me though! They will all work for you if you work it. None are a quick fix or the "easy way out" by any means. Good luck to you in whatever decision you make!!!
