home remedy--enema

Hi, Everyone.
I know constipation can be a problem for WLS patients, but the best thing I've found that works, so far, is to use an enema. The store-bought enemas can get expensive, though.
I have a home remedy enema recipe, which my doctor has approved. If you're interested in the recipe, just PM me. All I ask is that you get your doctor's approval before you try it. There shouldn't be a problem, but it's always good to check with your doctor first.
Blessings,
Mary

I just use water.  But I'm with you on the enema-waiting several days or even a week till it works itself out is not a good idea (been there, done that).

I'm doing better since I've reincorporated more vegetables and grains, but developing that into a habit is a work in progress.

Hi, Debra.
The recipe is water-based, with a few added ingredients. I refuse to be miserable day after day! With being so early out, there's just not much room for vegetables and grains, so I have to do other things.
I used to depend on MiraLax, but, for some reason, it's not agreeing with me. I don't know if it's the MiraLax or the fact that I just don't like Crystal Light these days.
I've also ordered an herbal tea that's supposed to help with constipation, so I'll give that a try and report in. :)
Blessings,
Mary

Be careful if that herbal tea has senna-it's a powerful laxative that will chew you a new one.

Good point. I'll see about how that goes. What an adventure all this is! :)

Also, I'm still trying to figure out the best balance.  If I make room for veggies, I have to supplement with liquid protein, and that might just be the way it has to be.  I'm not sure.

I've never been a big meat eater, I'm more of a bean and cheese gal, and I've had to really watch the cheese lately.  I believe in follow proper nutritional guidelines, but you also have to work with what works for you-and for me, cheese, fish and beans are the best course of action.  (You'd think with all the beans the other thing wouldn't be a problem).

The whole balance thing, with eating, is a challenge...probably even as time goes on. I can't seem to find a protein drink that I can stomach, which is all right since my doctor wants real-food protein and I like most meat. I also like bean and cheese...any protein, actually. I'm fortunate in that. I do miss the vegetables, though. I get them in, but not much. You do have to do what works best for your own body. After all, this is a lifestyle, not a diet. That's one of the things I love most about having WLS. I never have to diet again! I say "Praise the Lord" to that! :)
