You might want to try this yourself

I hand feed my dogs as a pack a couple of times a week. It helps build bonds, is fun for the dogs, and teaches them to sit quietly in groups. One thing I've noticed is how much I myself enjoy the crunching, etc. (I usually hand feed dry kibbles ) It's almost like living or eating vicariously through them.
Couple of tips:
1. I handfeed only in a calm manner-I don't want to encourage grabbing behavior. They have to eat quietly what is offered, or the offer is withdrawn until they settle down. I usually sit down on the back steps to be at their level, and they gather around and must settle before we begin.
2. Don't over feed your dog-their handfed kibble is equivalent to a meal, and that IS their meal.
3. Be mindful and conscious of what you are doing and why. It will help calm your dog(s) and calm you too. If you are distracted or upset and can't focus, don't do it. Mindlessly feeding your dog isn't any better than mindlessly feeding yourself, and it will hurt your dog (you'll over feed him too).
4. You could probably do this with the right cat too. I'd have to starve my cat before she'd consent to being hand fed (she's old). As a young cat she'd actually do a few simple tricks for treats, but as an old lady she is above that foolishness.
