Another Galbladder queston.

I didn't want to threadjack, so here's my galbladder question: How many of you had your galbladder removed when you had your WLS?
I'm looking at March for my GBP, and my sergon strongly suggested removing my galbladder at that time as well. He said he usually prefers to do it that way because so many WLS patients have trouble afterward. I was just wondering if it prolongs the recovery time or if it's about the same. Any input would be appreciated.

DeWitney~ Dr Warnock was my surgeon, too, as you know and he removed my gallbladder at the same time he did my RNY back in 2004.  I don't think it did anything to prolong my recovery time.  I didn't notice any difference really from having it and not having it.  I think I might have noticed more had it come out at a different time, but that's just my 2 cents.  I still was doing pretty good after about 2 weeks and really back on my feet after about a month.  You should let him go ahead and remove it and save yourself an additional surgery.  Message me if you have any further questions, girl!  *hugs*

I think that is an awesome idea....most who have the gallbladder prior to WLS end up getting it out later anyway.  What good is it actually anyway and he'll probably remove it lap right along with the lap RNY....I love that plan.  I had min 27 years ago so I already had it gone.

This is the ride of my life.....what an amazing tool I now have!!!

I had mine removed during my RNY. I have 2 extra incisions (one is very small) but other than that I do not believe that I would have been able to tell the difference. I would much rather have had both done at one time than to have another surgery some time down the road. Good Luck!

I think that is a wonderful idea!  Why subject yourself to another anesthesia when it is so likely your GB will go bad after weight loss?
I have maintained for one year at this point.  I am steady at -120 pounds.  =)

When I had my surgery in Nov, he took out the gallbladder at the same time due to the same reasons you said. I am glad too...I dont want to go back in for surgery...of course if its for a tummy tuck

Well, I wish I had my gallbladder removed when I had my WLS. I had my gallbladder removed 4 mos after. It was an extra surgery and extra time off.

8 pounds to my goal!

Mine was removed at 18 believe it or not, but I see no reason for it to make the recovery any longer. My mom had 4 abdominal surgeries done at once and swears that compared to the others she never even knew they took the gallbladder if it wasn't fo rthe incisions.
