Gallbladder Removal Recovery Time?...

My DH is getting his gallbladder removed tomorrow (outpatient).  How long should I expect him to be feeling crummy?  Is the recovery pretty similar to our WLS (laproscopic)?  I forgot to ask his surgeon what to expect.  I'm assuming he'll be off work for the rest of the week (having surgery on Tues - go back on Monday).  I know my DH will try to go back in on Thurs or Fri, but I'm going to try to convince him to take it easy instead.....unless you all that have been through it tell me he'll be fine.

Thanks in advance for any tips & input!

I had mine taken out in March with a hernia repair plus I was open. Recovery time is like this no lifting no straining...ie make sure he tkes stool softners and movers....no exercising no sex for at least 3 to 6 weeks depending on the doctor. I was told not to work for at least two weeks.he has to gice his body time to adjust and he will have pain. PLUS make sure that the doctors tell him what foods he needs to avoid or becareful of...without the gb certain stuff is harder to digest like before.
being healthy has its rewards....take the challenge and just do it

I had mine out before wls and I think I had surgery on a Wed. and went back to work the next Mon.  But it was the same for me for wls.  I thought the gallbladder was easier than the sleeve.  But the gallbladder is a really quick surgery.  It was very easy for me.  Had surgery at like 8:30AM and was home by 1:00.  It hurt way less than a gallbladder attack!!!  Best of luck to DH!

I had my gall bladder out in 2000 and it was very quick recovery. I took it easy for a couple of days. My was lap so it wasn't bad at all.

I had my gallbladder taken out before WLS too.  My laproscopic surgery was on a Monday morning and I was on my way home before noon.  I went back to work on Thursday and Friday for half a day.  The surgery was very easy and much less painful than my WLS which was also laproscopic.  Dr. Katsis did both of my surgeries.

Hope your hubby has an easy recovery!

I had mine out in 2006, op surg. Off for one week and then went back to work.  Office job so no lifting or bending.

Agree, much less painful than the attacks!

I had mine removed in 2001 it was done as an emergency surg and done lappy. I was off work less than 2 weeks. I had surg around 10 pm and was home before noon the next day. I felt great I didn't even have to take any thing other than tylenol for pain. I think child birth was 100xs worse than haveing my gallbladder removed.

Cant compare mine to the others, I had  mine removed Sept 2000, I had a birth defective gall bladder when they got in there, kept me for 36 hours after surgery and I had to go home with a drain tube that was gross that I had to take care of. They say that this happens one in every million whatever, few years later my brother had his removed and he had the same defect. So our mother (since different dads) defected us! We give her a hard time about it. Recovery for us was really tough, worse then WLS for me.

Hope that he has a event free surgery and springs back into himself quickly. Will keep him in my prayers!  But if hes like my hubby, hes gonna milk it for all its worth so be ready  :)
