upset stomach food

I've been sick with the flu crud lately and I feel nauseous every time I eat or drink.  Today I decided to eat a piece of whole grain toast with sugar free peanut butter.  I was able to eat half of it and actually felt good.  I wasn't planning to eat any bread or pasta since Dr. B strongly urged me to stay away from them.  Am I bad?  Was this a big no-no?  I just thought I needed something that I could keep down.

Anyone had similar situations?

No, you are not bad.  I occasionally eat a bit of bread.  Don't make it a habit and I think you will be OK.  I know that is a violation of our rules so don't flog me folks.  Sometimes you have to just live life and deal with what comes.

Hope you feel better soon!

Stacy,

i've seen a ton of WLS patients eat regular pasta, bread whatever....and most do just fine.  I'm quite the anti-carb person (just ask anyone) but I eat dreamfield's pasta weekly (just like a ton of others do...and I don't gain an ounce since it's low carb and delicious...

To eat things that made you happy before your surgery is pretty normal since I see it across different states and countries of WLS, so you're not alone....just pace yourself and make certain that you've missed enough carbs to make up for your decision....everything in balance...

i was always told to watch my carb intake and Doc B knew that I wasn't going to eat tons of carbs and his parting words to me were everyone eats carbs, but it's about the regulation of those carbs oer the ong term and the changes to eating habits is the point that they try to push.

So hey girly...you won't see me casting stones your way....

Glad to hear a few that eat the bread once in a while.  Before surgery, I searched for an all bread diet, but darn-all-the-luck!!!  no such animal.  Kind of like before surgery, I know I had a medical condition that caused me to be so overweight -- I just couldn't find a doctor to agree with me!!!  So many quacks!  I have had about 3 pieces of bread in January for the first time, but it has been either Ezekiel or Genesis bread.  Got at health food store and neither contains flour!  I like it toasted.  They even have Ezekiel English muffins, but haven't had any since surgery.  The bread comes frozen and you have to keep it frozen due to no preservatives.  They are also thin slices.

Amber:  The Ezekiel or Genesis bread has 14g carb, but 3g of fiber, so 11g net; no sugar; 4g protein; 80 calories per slice, and is flourless.  Their web site is:  www.foodforlife.com
