Introduction!!
Hello all you fellow Okies!!! My name is Marsha, I live on the south side of OKC. My friend Debbie and I are scheduled for the Sleeve February 24th. Debbie and I have been friends/co-workers for 24 years and have been thru a lot together over the years. We are calling our WLS experience Debbie and Marsha's most excellent adventure.
Both of us are in our 50's and have been overweight too many years. We have been each others support group, so it was almost natural for us to do this together. Our Dr was more than happy to accommodate. I'm so glad to have someone else to bounce things off of who is in the same place as me. We are both so excited we can hardly stand it.
Just this past week I hit a little speed bump with my insurance, but our Dr's office told me not to worry, they would handle it. They haven't postponed my date, so hopefully they are right. Next week I have my Dietitian visit, Deb had hers last week. Then the next week we have our 10day diet class and pre-op class together. Then all that is left is the final pre-op D visit, then the big day. We will be at Norman Regional, Dr Nelson is our surgeon. She seems to be a caring and thorough Dr.
A couple of people we work with know what we are doing, but we have kept it to just a couple. But you know how it goes, I'm sure before the 24th it will be common knowledge. I didn't want to be widely known, because when we were first researching it, quite a few people tried to talk me out of it (including my mom and daughter). My other daughter is behind me 100% as her husband had the sleeve last April and so far has lost 185#. It has saved his life.
I can be long winded at times, I'll ask you in advance to forgive me. Why use 10 words when you can use 100 instead?? Debbie and I have both been reading the messages here and getting to know many of you already. It is nice to know that there are so many who have been in our shoes and are willing to help support others as you do. Thanks in advance, and I hope to see a whole lot less of you in the future. We are both looking forward to meeting some of you at the different support groups.

Welcome Marsha! We are always thrilled to have newbies online!
What an exciting and happy journey you are going on! And to do it with a best buddy is incredible! I highly recommend it because that's what I did. Only it was my sister! My sister is HappyCat (on OH) and she had surgery 5 days before I did. She's the older sister - I made her go first! We both had the sleeve and couldn't be happier with the whole process.
This has been such an incredible journey for me. I'm being introduced to bone structure I didn't even know I had! (I have a collar bone - who knew???) My thighs are divorcing! I'm actually enjoying excercise. This has all been such a happy experience. Everything in life is easer when you have lost over 90 pounds. I'm happy to say that I have never thrown up and am learning to eat like a "normal" person
So please post early and often and ask away. We're all experts! Not! But we can share our experience and that's better any day - we are you!
Tell your friend to post too!
Much good luck to you and I congratulate you both on such a wise decision. You're gonna love your new life!

Hi Marsha! Welcome to our little family, I am sure you're going to be so amazed at the advice and support you will get here. Congratulations to you and Debbie for making the decision to change your lives forever. You won't regret it. It is helpful to have someone to join you on your journey. My partner has been my niece, although she had her surgery in September and I just got mine in December. I had to wait for insurance.
Good luck!
Hugs,
Marsha

Welcome Marsha! I had the sleeve in November. It's terrific that you will have a WLS buddy. My sister & I started the process together, but she backed out (might still have it this year, but we'll see).
This forum has been such a lifeline for me & I'm sure it will be for you too. Keep us updated on your progress & jump right in on all the discussions!

Welcome, Marsha! You will be so happy you have a surgery buddy. Having my sister to call made the journey so much easier (GlitterGal) Make sure you attend support group meetings as often as possible too. You are welcome to come to support group at Weight Wise in Edmond even though you are having surgery in Norman. We meet every Thursday night at 6 PM. You will meet many of us at that meeting.
