OKC Marathon!?!

I haven't been on the forum since September. Shame on me!

I am training to run as part of a relay in the OKC marathon in April. Crazy! I think it would be awesome if those of us who have had weight loss surgery could form a team. I know this is completely outside of our characters and comfort zones. I started training for the 5 K portion 6 weeks ago and I will be able to run the whole thing without stopping in 3 weeks. I think this would be a great opportunity for us to let the world know that weight loss surgery is not the lazy way out and that we are dedicated to a life long change.  Anyway, this is a thought I've had. If you are seriously interested or know someone else who would be, let me know.

I'm not a runner but I can easily do a 5K walk.  Do they offer that?  I'd love to get a group to do the walk part!

The 5K is actually technically a walk, but a lot of people run it. I am trying to do that myself...We will see how much I run vs. walk

As a survivor of the bombing I am a big supporter of the marathon!  My dream is to do the whole thing in honor of my friends who were killed.  I think it is a great idea and I would love to walk the 5K with you but I am a volunteer for the memorial and will be put to work that day helping with the marathon.

You can run or walk the 5 K. I am looking to be a part of a team that splits the 26 miles. Only really crazy people like to run for 2-3 hours! There are 5 legs to the marathon ranging from 3 miles to 6 or 7 miles (I think).

My daughter and a group from Cashion are going to do a half I think it is. She and a friend did it last year too. She is trying to get some of her group to run this year....She has a group in Cashion who started out with just two of people and now there are 20 who work out 3 days a week and run. They run in the gym since they workout real early in the AM's. She doesn't charge them anything but just wants to help all of them! It has been amazing for her. She is a personal trainer at a fitness place off Hefner and Rockwell 3 other days during the week....Did I mention she has 3 kids under 3??? CRAZY. I'm proud of her...but good heavens!!  This is one race that means alot to her though so she really wants to do it!
Maybe next year, I too can do it!

How long are the relay portions? I'm training to run the 1/4 marathon in Tulsa. I'd love to get together a team for the relay in Tulsa. There is still plenty of time to train for it :)

I just looked it up. I'm in for the relay! It will have to be one of the 5k legs but I'm in!

I love the idea, but running would set my foot back-it's never going to be a running foot.
