I AM 2 MONTHS OUT FROM SURGERY AND I AM HAVING LOTS OF NAUSOUSNESS RIGHT WHEN I START EATING.  I TALKED WITH DR. B AND HE SAID I AM TAKING TOO BIG OF BITES OR EATING TOO FAST.  HAS ANYONE ELSE NOTICED THIS FEELING STILL AT 2 MONTHS OUT?  HOW BIG OF BITES ARE YOU TAKING NOW???  I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT WE NEED TO ALWAYS TAKE ERASER SIZE BITES.  NOW THAT SCARES ME....  I STILL CAN NOT MAKE MYSELF SLOW DOWN AND EAT FOR 20-30 MINUTES....I JUST WANT THIS SURGERY TO BE A SUCCESS.  SOMETIMES I FEEL LIKE I AM NOT FOLLOWING THE RULES AS WELL AS I SHOULD.  I AM PLEASED WITH THE WEIGHTLOSS SO FAR, BUT I JUST DON'T WANT TO BE A FAILURE IN 2 YEARS.....

I dont take eraser size bits on everything, but on meats and the hard to chew things thats more time, yes I do cut it up into very little pieces!  I agree eatting too fast and too big of bites can make me nauseaed.  Try eatting off toddler utensils until you get used to eatting again, that is what I did and it made a huge difference, and I didnt find myself forgetting I am not the same eatter I was before I gotta eat slower and smaller bites.  Hope this help.

Your welcome, you will do great too. Dont worry about stretching your pouch as long as you do what the drs tell us then we dont need to worry, I know easier said then done, I too had the fear only makes us human!

I had my surgery November 10th and I do find that if I take to big off a bite especially something hard and dont get  it chewed really really well I will get that nasty gonna be sick feeling or it will feel hung. I never have an issue with softer food but anything that requires extra chewing I do. I find I have problems especially when I am not paying full attention like if I am watching tv or talking too much. So I have to be extra careful in those situations.

Candee - it sure takes some getting used to it, but with time you will remember about the bite sizes and eat slowly - I am almost one year out and I will get that nauseating feeling if a bite is too big, or not chewed well enough, and believe me I still do it....I also started with the baby spoons and small utensils - I don't use the toddler stuff anymore; however, I always use teaspoons to eat and small forks - just a habit now...feels weird holding a big utensil in my hands! Also, what has helped me with timing is using small bowls and plates.

I still do the same thing and I'm 10 months out.  I don't do it nearly as often but it seemed to take this old dog a long time to learn the new tricks!  When we've spent our entire life eating too fast, not chewing our foot good and then all of a sudden it changes it's a learning curve involved.  I think that is why it's important to sit down for a "meal" time and not in front of the TV etc.  At least when you are sitting to eat you concentrate more on what you're doing.  I still will forget once in a great while and take a bite too large.  I've even caught myself before swallowing and spit it out because I KNOW what the consequenses will be.  It will get easier and easier!  Good luck to you.  It sounds like you are doing an awesome job!!!

This is the ride of my life.....what an amazing tool I now have!!!

Keep trying-it takes forever to learn to take small bites and chew chew chew.  To help slow down, put your fork down between bites, chew, swallow, WAIT, then pick up your fork again.
