Well, I joined Mademoiselle today and I spent 2 hours going through all of the machines with a trainer....*WHEW!!  I was exhausted when I got done!!  I had left my bottled water in the car, so I know that was very bad!!  I had lunch before I went, which consisted of a fair amount of protein and some carbs.  I know in the past they would say to have carbs before working out, but since I am 3 weeks out RNY, what should I eat before working out and what should I eat afterwards?  I would think besides rehydrating myself that I would need to get some more proteins in, but I don't have a clue.  I am throwing this out to all of you who have the knowledge!!  Thanks!!

Carbs are only needed for endurance athletes. You don't need to "carb load" before working out.

Have fun! I can't wait til I'm healthy enough to start working out again. I miss it!

Congratulations on working out!!  I know how hard it is to take that first step.  I didn't have RNY so not sure how to advise you.  I personally work out and do not eat carbs before or after.  I drink water during and after and then about an hour later I eat a protien meal.

I think the special needs eating thing is probably for more advanced athletes.  BUT-don't forget tha****er bottle-that is one thing I've noticed since surgery (lap band, but we both have smaller tummies now) is that if I get really dehydrated it's hard to get back to where I need to be waterwise.  Gulping isn't good.

Another thing-3 weeks out?  Did your trainer know that?  2 hours is a pretty stiff workout that soon-be careful and make sure your trainer knows.
