Relocating to OK (tulsa) and wondering about transferring care

Hi!  I'm having my lap band surgery tomorrow!  1/23/09!  I'm currently in Las Vegas, NV.  We are military and about to leave active duty and move to OK.  I'm wondering if anyone has experience about joining a bariatric practice AFTER surgery...just for fills, and after care. 

If so, can anyone suggest which practices to look into in the area?

I can't really answer your question but I would like to welcome you to Oklahoma and this forum!  There are a lot of fabulous people in Tulsa that will chime in here but I wanted to say Hi!

Dr Kirk at Bailey Medical does all the fills for LAP patients for Dr Gorospe.  I am sure he would take great care of you.  Welcome to the Oklahoma boards and if you need anything never hesitate to ask us.

thank you for the welcome and the info!  Bailey is down the street from where we will be moving.   Wonderful news!  We should be in OK by mid march, we can't wait!

Dr. Kirk is a great guy, very down to earth...guess that's why his parents named him Joe Bob LOL.  I can't imagine with a relocation that the group at Bailey's wouldn't help you out.  There is also a monthly support group meeting there every month and quite a few of us attend.  Are you moving to Owasso or more towards Collinsville?

I'll be in Collinsville....actually just over the Rogers county line.....

You are moving to a great state!!  I only know of one person who has had the lapband elsewhere and gets her fills locally and I am sure she will chime in....Debra had her procedure in Mexico and uses local docs for her medical needs now...
Tulsa is a great place with wonderful WLS people as well as other wonderful people. They meet once a month to get to know each other, so that will help you make new friends quick.

I use OWLO for my aftercare now.  There is a "start up" fee involved.  I've been very pleased with the care.  At first I used Fill Center, because they were supposed to open a clinic in Tulsa, but never did.  So I gave up driving to Houston for fills.

Some practices here do not take banded else where patients, some do.  I'm not sure who does what in the Tulsa area, but your worst case is OWLO in Norman.  (Worst case being the drive, not the care given).

Congratulations on having surgery!  I think you will love Okla.  It is especially beautiful in the northeast...lots of hills and lakes.  I am having my 1st fill with dr kirk in owasso in feb.  He charges 400.00.  (200.00 for his fee and 200.00 for the hosp).  I also called a place in Edmond...a Dr Broussard.  I f he doesnt do the surgery he charges $2000.00 for one yr of fills...pay up front.  Dr Kirk is closer anyway for me.
