Candee; I had the sleep study at WW, and like you I was not one to go to bed early...yes, lights are out at 10:30, but you can still watch TV.....that was the worst night of my life!!! I could not get to sleep for the life of me...I was hooked up to all this wires all the way down to my legs and twice that I had to go to the bathroom I needed the tech there to come in and un-hook some of those wires. I think one of the reasons I couldn't fall asleep was the knowledge that I was being watched! I think I might have slept a total of two hours the whole time. Ok, not trying to scare you, just being up front.....on the bright side...it's only one night, and if there is something wrong they will find out what it is, and they let me take a shower in the morning to remove all that glue out of my hair...

On the chocolate....once in a while I do get a little craving...I really like dark chocolate and that craving goes away if eat even a tiny piece, since dark chocolate is richer.....

I had mine done at the OKlahoma sleep center..they said the same thing. but you are allowed to watch tv and do reading as long as you do not disturb others. LOL they even bring you something to drink and snacks. My best advice is to relax do not get up at a normal time Wednesday to get up earlier so you will want to go to sleep sooner and to wear real comfy stuff. PLUS the biggest advice when you go to clean up take dawn dish detergent to get the yucky stuff out of your hair..that s the only thing I found that worked...i have had 4 studies done....and if they are like OSc once you awake they will let you go home...I never stayed for breakfast
being healthy has its rewards....take the challenge and just do it

I didn't do my sleep study at WW however, it is a hard night.  It is not in anyway painful so don't get scared.  I don't think anyone really sleeps during a sleep study.  The docs are used to reading studies with minimal sleeping happening.  Somehow they figure out what is going on.  Kind of a mystery to me.  I will tell you that I probably had sleep apnea for years before I was sent for a sleep study.  I had a surgery in early '05 and kept setting off the oxygen level alarm.  We, the nurses and I, decided it was because I was relly drugged up and acutally turned OFF the alarm!  WTH???  Now, I realize I was not breathing!  I feel sooo much better with my CPAP although I hope to get rid of it soon.  They have already turned my pressure setting way down.  I think we will repeat the test in the late spring to see if I can ditch the "iron lung".
I have maintained for one year at this point.  I am steady at -120 pounds.  =)

I take Lunesta since I have some real problems sleeping right now. When I did my sleep study I couldn't get to sleep even with the pills!  I think I did get 2-3 hours of sleep but that was enough.
If you can take the day off afterward I would advise it. You will be very tired and will have the worst glue/cement in your hair.   lol
Good luck!

Hi, Candee.
I've had a sleep study, but not at Wt. Wise. You can do pretty much what you need to do to get to sleep. What I'd recommend for you is that you stay up the night before (don't do that if you're driving yourself to Edmond, though). You can take a sleeping pill (I took Melatonin, which is natural; I don't do well with anything that makes me feel drugged). Take your Psalms for Surgery, as I recall you said that it lulls you to sleep. The tech. may tell you that it will mess up the brain wave activity or his instrumental reading, but if it's short-term, early on, and within a time limit (one hour or less), I wouldn't think that would be a problem.
You're going to do all right, Candee. A lot of it is in your mind, in my opinion. If you dread it, have decided you won't be able to sleep, it will be a terrible, sleepless night. Be positive that you'll do well, and I believe you will.
About the chocolate, sometimes if we tell our self we can NEVER have that food again, we will obsess about it and set yourself up for a binge. Of course, it would be great if you can just leave it alone, but if your craving continues, have a SMALL piece of dark chocolate. If it helps your craving, then no harm done. If your craving gets worse, throw it out and just know that you can't go there.
Blessings,
Mary

I had my sleep study at WeightWise last April.  First let me say that it is a really nice, private room with a private bathroom.  There is a bed and a recliner.  The gal that was working when I was there was terrific.  I brought a book and had the TV on.  I was allowed to go to sleep at whatever time I wanted to but they do hook up all the electrodes or whatever they call them not long after you get there.  You will have to ask to be unhooked when you need to go potty.

Yes, it's a crummy night.  Yes, you will have icky stuff in your hair.  But all in all, it's not terrible.  I went to work that day with no problem.  I was happy to be in my own bed that night though!

The technician did not hook me up to cpap that night but the study did show that I had mild sleep apnea.  So I had to get a cpap.  It took some getting used to and I would like to ditch it.  But if I'm honest, I feel better after having the machine.  I feel more alert and just feel better in general!

You'll do great.  Make sure to bring comfy, loose pj's and your own pillow.  And your teddy bear if you think it will help you sleep!  LOL!

About the chocolate - how about some of that sugar free Whitman's or Weigh****chers chocolate.  It's really yummy.  But don't eat too much because it's emply calories and it will give you a bad case of the wind!  Ha!  Ha!  Ha!

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Kim

PS I was released pretty early the morning after the study so I had time to come home and shower before work.  As I said, the lady was great!

I did my sleep study at WW last spring.  As everyone has said, it is a nice facility and the people are very nice to you.  I took my ipod and listened to a book  with the sleep alarm set so it would turn off.  I was able to sleep more than I expected.  I'm usually a late night person and a sleep late person.  She said I had just gotten into deep sleep when she came in to wake me.  All in All it wasn't a terrible night but not quite like being at home.

I call them non-sleep studies because there isn't a whole lot of sleeping going on.  I went to the McAlester hospital and I had the first part, polysonogram, on Jan 5 and had to come back on Jan 15 for the titration part where they found what setting is best for me.

Cathy @ WW said Dr. W wants you to be using a cpap for at least 2 weeks before surgery and it's going to be another two weeks before I get the report from the tests.

I work for a medical equipment company so I was lucky that I knew about sleep studies and I have been using an auto titrating machine since the first part.

But I survived both nights and now one step closer to my surgery!

By the way, recent studies have shown that treating sleep apnea can help you loose weight!!!
