Ok, so weight loss is wonderful. I don't think there has been one single side effect that outweighs the benefits! But about three months post op the most dreadful thing happened! I am an avid birth control pill taker (for like 10 years) I love Yasmin and am diligent in taking it on time, everyday. But for some reason I just couldn't stop bleeding... I went to the doc and we tried a regimen of 3 pills for 2 days, 2 pills for 3 days... then back to normal... it worked... for about a week... then back to bleeding. So we tried a higher dosage pill because EVERYTHING came back normal. Still bleeding... Finally, I went to a different doc (sometimes you just need a different opinion). I explained that one pill a day was not working and that the only thing I could do was try one in the morning and one in the evening (which is dangerous due to stroke risk, and expensive!!!). He suggested I try Nuvaring. Now ladies, I am a control freak, I need to be in control. I know that if I put the pill in my mouth then things are all OK... so this Nuvaring thing was kinda scary... I know I know... stupid to think so, but hey, we all have our quarks! Anyway, I have been doing this thing for about two weeks with excellent results! No bleeding, no crazy mood swings, just normalcy! It's great. So I know its a weird topic, but some people may be experiencing these issues and need to know that we may just not be absorbing enough of the hormone in the pill to work! But Nuvaring is absorbed directly into the body without having to deal with the tummy!!!! So I am getting over my weirdness about it, I even uh you know... and he said he didn't even feel it! But oh boy, I sure did... hahahahaha ok ok too much info.... the point is, don't give up, there are ways to make it all better!!!!!

Wow I never even considered that you may not be able to absorb your BC pill.  I'm a lap bander so know nothing about it but WOW! that's probably something folks should consider. Yikes!

After 9 surgeries in one year..I never know when where I will start...All I do know is this It only lasts for three days...and I do not take bc...at 42 if I became pregnant we all would become rich cause this bicycle notor factory is not in production and cant produce anyway
being healthy has its rewards....take the challenge and just do it

Wow!  I hadn't thought about not absorbing b/c pills.  I don't take them anymore anyway, had my tubes tied over the summer, but haven't had TOM since surgery...hopefully it won't affect it.  I also had endimetrial ablation this summer at the same time I had my tubes tied.  The only thing I don't like about not being on the pill is never knowing when it's going to raise it's ugly head!

34 lbs. lost before surgery on December 22, 2008.   105 lbs. lost prior to signing up for WLS.

I am at the menopausal end of the spectrum but gotta tell you my hormones went nuts after surgery.  I started having hot flashes from he** all over again.  We are still working on completely controlling them.  So, it is not just the BC hormones that get out of whack.  I think our poor bodies get so confused they don't know what to to.
I have maintained for one year at this point.  I am steady at -120 pounds.  =)

I have had a lot of problems with bc this year.  I had the mirena iud in and it was horrible.  They said to give it 6 months to get adjusted to it but I had to have it taken out.  It was causing a lot of pain.  I do have to take bc pills so that I can have a period each month because with PCOS, I don't and I have been close to having endometrial cancer twice already.

But thanks for sharing because I will keep that in mind!
