I'm not pro or anti anything for anybody else-I think people should do what they feel is best for them.  Exchanging information is good-not everyone has a good support system after surgery.  Surgeons are notorious for being gifted in the OR and short on people skills, etc.  That said, just because you have a good support system doesn't mean that your group is the be all and end all of scientific knowledge.  Medicine is not an exact science-it varies from person to person, body to body.

Yep you are going to read about people eating things you are NEVER SUPPOSED TO HAVE AGAIN.......and some of those people will be successful, some will not be.  I  myself, in fact, this very day, after eating baked fish and some veggies left room for one coconut macaroon and a bite of pie.  I don't do that every day, but when I do, I greatly enjoy it.  I may never eat a whole box of cookies again, but I never ever, for one minute thought I'd NEVER eat a cookie again.  Nope, that was never part of my plan.  (But, by eating the protein first I limited the amount I could hold comfortably).

I myself was never able to cut out enough carbs to successfully go into ketosis for very long.  For me, the only way I could get there was to fast completely.  It's a nasty business, and chances are, anyone that already has an inclination to over eat isn't going to stay there long enough to do long term damage.

Just because a recipe is low carb doesn't make it a bad recipe.  If you fall into ketosis suddenly, you could always eat one of those coconut macraroons!

I happen to know this because I recently purchased two books about coconut at the health food store-I think you'd be fine with sugar free, but some of it is processed with sugar-you wouldn't want that.  (The book also details how to prepare a fresh coconut-I may give it a go sometime....it's fabulous from what I remember.)

If you want to borrow the books, you are welcome to-they are mostly recipes and one guys take on the benefits of coconut, but it was interesting reading.

Fleemore, check with your nut about the fresh coconut. The bariatric bible that my nut gave me said that we can NEVER have fresh coconut. She said it had to do with the fact that it cannot be chewed to the right consistency and is not easily digested.

Does anyone agree that it sure would be nice if all the doctors and nutritionists were on the same page with what you can and can't have? It would sure be alot easier on all of us.
I wonder too, if it makes a difference with the surgery you had. I mean would an RNY patient have more problems with a coconut than a sleeve or lap band? I am told never to have some things, while others eat them and do fine because their doctors say its ok. I guess you just do what your doctor says and that is it. It is like children. You can't always do what the neighbors kids are doing.
