Glass of wine??
My take is weird... but here it is...
My friends, my co-workers...and some other people don't know that I had WLS so sometimes when we go out to a bar, i find a shot in front of me, and then everyone raises their glass....well the first time I drank was months and months after the surgery... i thought, no biggie...but you know what....that shot hurt my belly like mad and i waned to hurl and i got drunk immediately...but if you drink water, you'll wash out the alcohol immediately as well and only catch your buzz for a much shorter amount of time (if you're a RnY...we don't have a pyloric valve anymore, so it washes everything out with jus****er)....
So do I drink? yes... is it often? no... have I done it to excess...yes/no...hard to say.... should I not do it? yes...it's my honest opinion... does it affect my ability to gain weight? no but I'm too new to know all of the affects, so I try not to pu**** too far. I know that so many things reamin after surgery like parties and social events and sometime you just want to be the normal skinny person at the party, so i do cave into the social pressure of it, so I'm not gonna chastize you for a glass of wine.....in fact, I'll take a glass myself...

I had surgery on 5/28/08 and had my first drink over Labor Day weekend the end of August. So 3 months, I guess. But it was only 1 drank and it was a sissy drink. (and evil and full of carbs - Kahlua Colada) But I ordered it at a swim up bar and walked around the pool while I drank it so that negated the calories or ill effects. (and I wonder why I got fat!)
No beer ever! The carbonation is very, very bad for your tummy.
Wine is good for your heart right? Ha! Only you can decide if you want to do it or not. WeightWise does tell us 1 year. Alcohol is dehydrating so that is probably one of the main reasons they advise against it. Plus alcohol is empty calories - no nutrition there!
If you decide to do it, take it easy until you figure out what kind of effect it will have on you. Since you haven't been feeling well anyway, this may be the wrong choice for you! Take care!

lets go party! Only one small detail you might want to change the glass to a shot glass. Wine and liquer will hit hard and fast. I sipped some home made wine in NC and got tipsy to the point I even said I was and that was off of a shot. And I use to be a huge wine drinker....so would I do it at 3 or 6 months out...nope cause wine is made from fermented sugar and you go dump real fast..imagine yourself with the girls a cute guy comes up you sip some wine and BAM you have the urge to hurl.....not a sight I would want to see....
being healthy has its rewards....take the challenge and just do it
You are too stinkin hilarious!!! I just laughed out loud. I may have a few sips, but that is it. I use to love going out with the girls, and now, it's so different!!!! I use to be the life of the party, and I am sure I'll be deader than a door nail with out a little something!! But, yet, I sure don't want to hurl on a cute guy for heavens sake!! LOL
Hi my name is Dan and I am a rum drinker.
Now that that's out of the way. I drink one mixed drink every Thursday and Saturday night when I go out country dancing. Thing is I also drink a TON of water when I am dancing cause I get so hot. I used to love red wine but I will not drink it now though. And I stay away from dark liquor and beer anymore. Dr Gorospe was asked when was too soon to start drinking at one of our meetings one night. He said that medically you could drink at one month out cause you are then fully healed from the surgery. Should you? He said no. He also said you wil be the cheapest drunk, but the first one to be sober again. LOL
