I know was covered in the thread about how much you've lost but it's such a long thread I wanted to ask just this:

If you could start over, would you still have this surgery?

I would definately do this again, without a doubt. Having VSG surgery was actually so easy and the recovery was easy, nothing to worry about with the surgery part!! Maybe just the 1st 2 weeks of liquids I found to be tough, but it was over in no time. It has made me change my eating habits and drink water. Neither I would do on my own. YES, YES, YES, that's my answer.

Good luck,

I bet I'm the only one that will give this answer, but as of today.....No, I probably wouldn't.       I'm 7 weeks Post-Op with VSG.  Yes, I've lost weight, but it's not just falling off in buckets like so many others have experienced.  I've lost 24 pounds since surgery.  Heck, I lost 20 pounds in only 4 weeks just prior to surgery.  Sure, I fully admit that I haven't been 100% compliant with the dietery restrictions.  However, the tiny amount of food that I can consume is sometimes depressing.  I often feel sick after I eat.  I can't enjoy meals with my family (I'm a SAHM with a husband & 3 kids).  I cook for them, eat a few bites and then if I feel well enough I sit there while they eat, but about 50% of the time I feel pain or nausea that require me to get up and walk around.  Kinda embarrassing to have to walk out of a restaurant 5 minutes after our food is served.  I end up sitting in the car waiting for my family to finish their meal.

Sorry to be a downer.  Hopefully, in a couple of months - more weight will have dropped and I'll be feeling much better.  Then my answer will change.  I just am really anxious for that day to come because right now it seems like this was an expensive, painful & irreversible mistake.

Teri, Hang in there. It should get much better for you.It has to be extremly difficult to do this with a family to cook for. Fortunately, I am single and my kids are grown, however are very supportive. I know that this journey would have been a lot harder on me if this was not the case.

It does get better. In the mean time be sure that you are eating small bites and chewing it up good. It makes a world of difference. You are still learning how to deal with your new tool. Heck, I'm still learning after 13 months. What works one day sometimes doesn't work the next.

The best advice that I can offer you is to be very compliant especially this early out. There will be plenty of times in the future to expierment with other foods. I know that it is hard. After all, we didn't have surgery on our brains. That might have worked better, Lol.

Hang in there, and if I can help in any way please don't hesitate to give me a shout. (((((HUGS))))) Rita

Wow... that is a deep question, but fairly easy to answer.  I have had major complications, 4 hospital stays, can't remember how many ER visits, 2 leaks (one of them right now), and I would still do this surgery again.  And if I ever hear anyone say to me that it was the easy way out, I will probably knock them out.  This has not been easy for me.  The first leak I didn't eat or drink for 8 1/2 weeks and I am on day two of not eating and drinking for this current leak.

Yes, I would do it again.  I've had no major complications-the hardest part has been battling with learning to be happy with the smaller amounts of food-and that takes time.  I never would have learned it without having had the surgery.

I say this all the time-the surgery isn't the end product-it's just the beginning of a lot of changes.  And yes, sometimes I'd still like to sink my teeth into a big hunk of crusty white bread-but would I add back the 105 pounds I've lost in order to do that-heck no.

I WOULD DEFINITELY DO THIS AGAIN IN A HEART BEAT!!!!!!!!!!  I HAVE LOST 32 LBS. IN 7 WEEKS AND FEEL SO MUCH HAPPIER AND HEALTHIER.  I STILL HAVE ABOUT 35 MORE TO LOSE, BUT I CAN ACTUALLY RUN UP AND DOWN THE STAIRS WITHOUT BEING OUT OF BREATH...MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS ALSO HAVE NOTICED I JUST SEEM TO BE MORE CONFIDENT AND OVERALL AT PEACE WITH EVERYTHING AROUND ME.   BEFORE, I WAS ALWAYS THINKING OF MY WEIGHT AND WHAT I WAS GOING TO TRY TO DO TO GET SOME WEIGHT OFF.  BUT, I WAS ONE THAT HAS NEVER BEEN ABLE TO LOSE ANY SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT ON MY OWN.....I AM SO GRATEFUL FOR DR. B AND DR. WALTON FOR CHANING MY LIFE.  PLUS, I HAVE MET SOME PRETTY SPECIAL FRIENDS THAT I HOLD VERY DEAR IN MY HEART.....

GOOD LUCK TO YOU
