Fiber supplments for the post-op folks
I use Dr. Walton and he and my nut say nixo to the fiber. If I have problems or need anything they recomend Mirilax. I personally found that I can keep things moving for me if I don't forget to add some fruit and or veggies. I usually eat my protein first and then a little of either or and have done fine. Early on I was usually eating only protein and the water and with all the calcium it set up like concrete and then I had to call my friend "Fleet"....Mirilax wouldn't even touch it. I know...TMI. I learned pretty quickly that I had to add in the other ingredients of fruit and veggies!!
I'm going to check into the Miralax and see what is in it and how it works.

After my last bout with constipation, I have adopted a fiber at every meal rule....either sprinkled into a protiein drink, veggies in my egg or veggies with meat-you get the idea. Nothing goes IN without something to help it get out.
And remember, as the total amount you eat gets smaller, so will the total, uh, output. My lunch was about 2-3 oz of ground steak, a few bites of cabbage, a couple bites of tater, and one bite of onion. (Cabbage an onion together is one of natures little movers, so I hope that onion doesn't do me in).
With the band, I have to be careful of stringy fibers, but cabbage usually is a good choice for me. Tomatoes is another thing that helps move things along. And, yes, prune juice (although I have no idea why, because there is no fiber in it hardly...)
In addition to stitches and hernias, keeping the intestines cleaned out and working is just good body management. You will feel better, and your immune system will be stronger.
When you are ready to take the plunge-I've got some veggie recipes that will probably work for you.
