Dont know what's wrong with me.....

OK...some of this might be alittle TMI especially for themen...but I need some opinions.

Sunday before last I started having serious pain in my sides and lower back. I was miserable all day but I had a doctor appointment the next day so I did not go to minor ER. My doc was out so I had to see a different doc and she thought I had like a vaginal bacterial infection (partly because I had been spotting, but I have an IUD and do not have a period so spotting is not unusual for me) and started me on a vaginal cream type antibiotic. She said that I had a minor amount of white blood cells in my urine and some red blood cells of course. That week the spotting stopped and I felt fine...no more pain...until 3 am yesterday morning. It came back with a vengance. I thought I was gonna cry. I felt like I had to pee but when I tried to pee nothing would come out and it burned...I just paced the floor because I couldnt stand up or sit down or lay down cuz I was miserable. Finaly around 8 am it gradually eased up and i was able to pee again no problem. I went to the doc around 10 (you could not have paid me money to believe  that I did not have a kidney or bladder infection) and my urine was CLEAN! She kept asking questions as if I had maybe hurt my back somehow but it isnt that kind of pain and why does it start and stop on a weekly basis. She did an xray to see if it was kidney stones but I think that was just to appease me. She said maybe I was constipated but I have been constipated a lot in my life (I have IBS) and have never experienced anything like this.

Has anyone else had anything similar?

I'd have them do some different testing for kidney stones or perhaps you passed a kidney stone during the night. I've never experienced them first hand but several people that I am close to have and that sounds an aweful lot like what they went through...Just my .02

Hi, Lorna.
It sure sounds like kidney stones to me, but I'm no doctor. Keep after them for more tests, as the pain is due to SOMETHING. Until then, drink as much water as you can. I'm praying for you.
Blessings,
Mary

Not TMI!  We all have health issues that need to be addressed from time to time and others here may be able to help!

DeWitney may be on to something.  I'm a male who suffers from kidney stones.  I have had a dozen in the past 14 years.  They start with very diffuse lower back and lower abdominal pain.  As they move, the little sharp edges gouge into the sides of your ureters (tubes from kidneys to bladder).  That can cause bleeding and you will get funny colored urine ranging from red to orange and lighter shades thereof.  You may have no infection so the test strip won't show it.

I would go back to doctor ASAP.  You need a CAT scan or an ultrasound on your renal system.  You can kill a kidney if the stone is big enough.  They may need to do lithotripsy and Deaconness has a wonderful machine that works for bigger folks.  If it's a small one, your only option is to pass it.

As to treatment, here's what I do.  First off, drink lots of water.  No tea, no sodas, no coffee...WATER!  We have to get that sucker moving.  Next, soak in a hot tub.  This helps relieve pain and move the stone.  Finally, add a lot more vitamin C to your diet.  I take a gram a day.  Vitamin C acidifies urine and helps keep formation down.  Citris juices help too.  There's anecdotal evidence from gorilla studies that gorillas that lack sufficient vitamin C are prone to stones  (they get 4 to 6 grams a day!).

My cousin Robin has had them and she says it can be worse than labor pain.  Don't mess around with it!  It can knock you off your feet in a second!

Best of luck!

Good advice, Winnebago!!

Keep pushing for more tests! Maybe a different lab or doc...just to be sure. My brother-in-law has a history of stones...very bad stuff indeed. Hope you feel better soon!

Winnebago could not have said it better.  That sounds so much like a kidney stone.  I have had 5 of them and I will tell you they make linebackers cry like little girls.  OMG they hurt.  Drink a LOT of water like he said and if you can handle it (since it has natural sugar) try drinking some Cranberry juice ever so often as well (Crystal Light even makes a sugar free Cranberry).  Hope this all clears up for you.  Pain of any kind sucks.

Gotta be careful with cranberry juice.  I found out that I use the residue to make a kind of binding agent that makes the stones bigger and harder to pass.  Not everyone has this so be sure to have the analysis on the stone done when it does pass.  That will tell you if the cranberry juice is bad for stone formation.

As to making a linebacker cry like a little girl, there ain't no bigger truth!!!  I started having one on the way back from a trip and by the time we got to OKC I was hanging on to the OH SH*T bar on the passenger side so hard I was rigid because sitting hurt SOO bad!  Someone kill me please!!

I'm wincing here in sympathetic pain...I hope it gets better quick for you!

Well, I have a chronic bladder disease and I have pretty much the same symptoms. It took over a year before I was finally sent to a specialist that was able to diagnose it. Some days I will be fine, other days just suddenly in pain.  I thought for a long time it was female related because the pain was in the same region as my ovaries. I always have blood show up in my urine which would usually be a UTI, but there is no bacteria when they do a urine culture. Do a google search for  interstitial cystitis. It seems like it is misdiagnosed often.
I hope you feel better soon!

Shelly
